In the tropics, everything is always growing. This week, we got a glimpse of the amazing corteza amarilla, an incredibly large tree that from one day to the next, drops its leaves and sprouts the most beautiful yellow flowers. When this happens, you see bright burst of yellow dotting the Costa Rican landscape, and it’s stunning! We also came across blankets of fuchsia as this tree dropped its flowers.

Hello everyone! My name is Alyssa Holcomb and I am an alumni traveling with the Monticello Spanish Club. My trip to Costa Rica with Go Tico has been a trip of a life time. The views from all of the hikes have been absolutely incredible. My favorite activity we did outside of La Flor was hiking the waterfalls and swimming in the pools. Bonding with the community is also something i will never forget. We were all able to practice our Spanish and the ticos were able to practice their english with us! We were able to support small businesses and get a true sense of the culture in Costa Rica. Staying in La Flor has grown my knowledge of other cultures and improved my Spanish! ❤

A huge thank you to Santa Rita for inviting us to their high school’s Festival Educativa de Arte 2023! Our visiting US students had an amazing time learning about Costa Rican dances and seeing all the talent this small town had to offer.

Nature is perfect, that was the theme of a recent night tour we did near the Tenorio volcano. we worked with an amazing guide to learn about flower at adaptations for pollination. This country never ceases to amaze us! Took advantage of a family visit this weekend to head over to the Puntarenas region and do one of the most incredible hikes yet. Nuestra Historia

Go Tico! started as an organization connecting local Middle School students to the small community of La Flor in the Northern Central section of the country. This first, 10-day venture ambitiously brought together a small group of students who committed themselves to living in home stays in the 300-person community, teaching daily English classes at the local elementary school and fundraising beforehand to raise money to start a school library. What an experience! Armed with 140+ books that year, our first group spent 10 days making life-long connections with the local community, with students during the day and families and other community members at night during evening community-building events. When we weren’t engaging with local kids in La Flor, we explored the area: cooling off in a local waterfall-fed swimming hole, exploring a wildlife rescue and hiking to a hidden lake in a secluded National Park. The trip was such an incredible experience that we couldn’t wait to get home and plan another!

Since that first trip, Go Tico! has reached out to schools around the Madison-area to expand this travel opportunity to other Middle and High School students. Each of our school trips conducts a wonderful, community-building fundraiser to raise money for continued contributions to the La Flor library as well as scholarships for future student participants.

We have also begun to expand our travel offerings, always with the goal of allowing travelers to truly experience Tico culture and explore the biodiversity of the country, while having personable and enthusiastic Go Tico! directors to support their travel each step of the way. Youth soccer camps connecting local and visiting soccer players in 10 days of training and cultural exchange. Spanish immersion retreats for adults or families to live and experience Tico food and culture away from tourist hot-spots. English Language travel to study English from a certified ESL instructor (and Go Tico! co-owner) while on vacation touring one the most beautiful countries in the world. Small group customized itineraries or retreats. These are only a slice of what we can provide, and we are always eager to look for new opportunities to connect visitors to a part of Costa Rica they might not otherwise see.

Ultimately, our commitment is to providing a personalized and personable approach to travel, taking you to this most incredible country and sharing with you why we love it so much!
