Mark Fuhrmann who has embarked on a rather unusual retirement. The 65-year-old Canadian, who has run maritime PR and marketing businesses in Oslo for the last 30 years, has swapped a business suit for a wet suit as he set out on the first ever kayak round-trip of the challenging 10,500km ‘Greater Loop’. In doing so, he aims to raise over EURO 100,000 for Leger uten Grenser and Captains Without Borders. The Greater Loop is from Halifax, Nova Scotia through Northern Canada, three great lakes (Lake Ontario, Lake Huron,Lake Michigan) and several rivers to Mobile, AL, cutting across the Floridian panhandle before crossing Lake Okeechobee to the east coast and then up to New York and eventually back to Halifax.
Fuhrmann, who undertook a 5,900km charity kayak from Oslo to Athens, Greece, in 2018, has called the expedition the ‘Reverse the Bad’ tour – a response, he says, to the current challenges facing humanity and the strains on our individual well-being.
He sleeps in a tent, helps homeless people, lifts people up through small acts of kindness, and tries to make the world a better place, step by step.
You can reach him on his email: [email protected] or cell phone: 902 870 2642.
