The hardest part about our lockdown here in India is that we have no access to Amazon, post mail, order in food, and actually pretty much everything. ⚔️❌⁣

It's a total lockdown! We've been craving a ho**ah for weeks now and can't order it or buy it from anywhere 😭⁣

We check amazing and call local stores everyday 🤣⁣

Polonnaruwa became the capital of all the cities in Sri Lanka in the 11th century.⁣
⁣
Also declared a UNESCO world heritage site, Polonnaruwa is known for its Royal palaces, gigantic statues, tombs and of course temples.⁣

Ramadan Mubarak 🌙⁣⁣

We've entered the month of Ramadan. For the next 30 days, we'll be fasting from sunrise to sunset. That means no water or food for 14-18 hours💧🥪⁣ The first couple of days are always the hardest but our body adjusts to the fast and it becomes easier for us by the end of the first week. ⁣
⁣⁣
If you'd like to learn more about what this month means for muslims, check out story 😀 It’s the holiest month for Muslims and it’s sad not to be able to experience it with family as that is what makes the month more beautiful. But we are finding small and big blessings in what we have and it feels great 😁⁣

Btw the best gelato we ever tasted was ! They use all natural flavoring and hand make every ingredient! And they’ve been invited to the World Gelato Competition for their Puttalem Sea Salt & caramel flavor. 😋😋⁣

Dreaming of the days we can travel again. We're almost coming to the end of our Sri Lanka theme, and looking back we had the chance to visit some incredible places.

took is through 11 cities in 9 days as we went from north to south. Our second trip to Sri Lanka, we spend a month hopping from one beach town to another. ⛱️

Now, we'd love to go back to visit the east 🤩

‼️ We're currently not trraveling and are quarantined in India. Just posting our Sri Lanka pictures so we can move on to Thailand! 🇹🇭

This is the famous Galle light house. Galle is the southern capital of Sri Lanka with its historic charm and European influences. ⁣

Within Galle is Galle Fort, a city which both locals and tourists flock to enjoy a different side of Sri Lanka. 👩🏼‍🤝‍👨🏽⁣
⁣
It's a fun place to wander the city and marvel at the Dutch colonial style buildings, stunning sunset views off the rampart and famous historic sites.🏚️⁣

Our friend Mervin from started his career in travel and hospitality here as he worked in one of the most eloquent hotels. And so, we had the best locals experience to this fort city. 🗣️⁣

Mihintale is part of the Cultural Triangle in Sri Lanka. ⁣
This ancient city was named the “Cradle of Sinhalese Buddhism” as it rooted itself deeply within while it spread through the country.🕉️⁣

To date, it remains one of the major cities in Sri Lanka among Buddhist pilgrims who make annual visits to pay homage. 🛐⁣
⁣
Best way to explore this region is with a tour company who handles all the transportation and entrance tickets and there is no better operator than . 🚗⁣
⁣
Public transportation is difficult in the north and so having a tour guide driving you around is most convenient. Not to mention they can tell you all about the rich history dating back 2600 years. 📆⁣

Ahangama Beach in Sri Lanka is a more low-key spot where locals enjoy a small beach and intermediate level waves for surfing 🌊⁣
⁣
Each beach town is no more than 10-15 minutes away and you can easily hop on and off a locals bus. 🚌⁣
⁣
The hard part is finding a bus stop and trying to make the bus stop for you. If there's no local at the bus stop, it higly unlikely they'll stop for you. ❎⁣
⁣
Unless you're like Israa and stand in the middle of the road forcing them to stop 😂⁣
⁣
You can take a tuk tuk as well but they like to take jack up the prices for tourists - even tho the tuk tuk is only $2-3 😅 The bus is 20 cents 💰⁣

This heat in India is no joke. I can't believe we were planning on traveling around northern India during these months. ☀️⁣

The only good thing would be less crowds, but is it worth coming back to your hotel drenched in sweat? 👫🏽👬🏽👭🏽⁣

Still fisherman! We only saw these in pictures and thought how cool it was that these fishermen still use this method for fishing. However, it’s mostly used for tourist purposes now and a chance for the fishermen to make a quick buck. ⁣
⁣
There are a lot of poles you’ll see along the coast line near Mirissa but mostly all will be empty. If you want to get a picture of the fishermen or even get on the poles you’ll have to pay. Just pull over and ask a few locals and they’ll round up a few fishermen. ⁣

Weligama has to be our favorite town in Sri Lanka hands down! ⁣

The chill, surf, beachy vibes were perfect for passing the time slowly.😌 It wasn’t all play but it was so relaxing to take a dip in the water and surf for one hour during the day when we wanted to take a break from our online work.⁣
⁣
Our time here convinced us even more that we belong in California, right by the beach so we can continue to make surfing a hobby.⁣
⁣

This is Ambuluwawa tower near Kandy. It was such a crazy experience to climb the top because it got narrower and narrower the higher we climbed. 😯⁣⁣

At one point I had to carry my backpack in my hand and shuffle my way up hugging the railing that was only at hip level. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Not to mention it was extra scary because it was Insanely windy! 💨⁣⁣

Dalawella beach has quickly become the most famous spot in Unawatuna because of this rope swing attached to a palm tree. ⁣

We first started seeing swings in Bali and the idea quickly spread across the island, now making its way into other tropical paradises. ⁣

These attractions are a great way for tourists to really enjoy themselves while also giving the locals a chance to make a quick buck.⁣

All it takes is a few Instagrammers or vloggers to post about it and use the hashtag, and BOOM!⁣

We were thinking about leaving to Chicago, but decided staying in India is better for us to focus and attain our goals from here since there’s less distractions and we follow a set routine every day. ⁣
Add family into the mix and who knows what we’ll end up with every day. Are we right? 😂 (though we still miss them very much and wish we can be with them) ⁣

This is at Dikwella beach, one of our favorite beaches in Sri Lanka. It's surprisingy huge and many times you'll have the beach to yourself because the neighboring beach - Herikitya, attracts more tourists because of its cove island like location. ⁣

Save this for your next destination (hopefully sooner than we think!) We believe it’s a true paradise 🌴

We've been in India so long now that enjoying a staycation was exactly what we needed to take a break from the non stop work. 🏨⁣

The lemon tree hotels started with a 48 room hotel in Delhi in 2004 and now have over 8000 hotels all over India! 🇮🇳⁣
⁣
This one was located in HITech city in Hyderabad - it's the IT HUB with massive IT corporations headquartered here. 🔌💡⁣
⁣
And so, the hotel has everything you need on site including an award winning Pan-Asian and hyderabadi restaurant, a lounge bar, a 24 hour buffet! And even a full service spa.
Their Signature Republic of Noodle restaurant is located in most of their chains throughout India! And WOW! We had the khao soi twice! (If you know, you know 😏) 🥣🥢🥧🍤💆🏻‍♀️💆🏽‍♂️⁣

The location is very close to Golconda Fort - a fortified citadel. We highly recommend considering when traveling through India ✈️ @ Lemon Tree Hotels
