***** OFFICIAL NEWS - A new British record *****

Most of us have grown up with Steve Terry's record eel thought to be unbeatable, But with Steve Ricketts recent epic capture the unthinkable has become reality. Steves scales were verified as 0.2 grams light and after all the evidence has been checked and verified by the BRFC they have just announced a new British record of 11lb 3oz will be issued.

A huge congratulations to NAC member Steve Ricketts on a truly remarkable and inspiring capture. đź‘Źđź‘Źđź‘Ź

With near record rainfall and water levels substantially above normal it is probable that salmon smolt survival will be substantially increased in their freshwater migration. Predation pressure will certainly be reduced. It remains to be seen how this weather and water level impacts on newly hatched or salmon parr.

Well that's the shad competition over for this year and a great day had by all, huge thanks to all our anglers and it was great to see all our regulars back again in St Mullins, fishing was a bit slow but 11 fish caught so not too bad. Congratulations to Allistair leong on winning the overall prize with 4 fish, and also congratulations to Mark Jeffers on winning the longest fish with a great specimen fish just over 50cm well done to all. And we can't forget our juvenile anglers who fished hard all day well done to all of them.

Well folks it's competition day, hope ye are all ready for a great day's fishing it's great to be back hosting this great competition again after 2 long years off, some great prizes on offer, remember registration from 11 in the car park and competition from 12 to 3, juvenile anglers will fish the beat in front of the car park only they don't move from this beat, we have 3 beats for the senior anglers and anglers have to move to the next beat every hour no fish will be registered if the angler is on the wrong beat so make sure to move every time and most importantly enjoy your day

Well folks it's time again to hold our shad fishing competition and we have decided that it will be held on Sunday the 22nd of May, starting at 12 o'clock and finishing at 3 o'clock high tide on the day is about 1 o'clock so this is probably the best time for it, registration is from 11 o'clock in the car park. This year we will be measuring the fish so the overall winner will be the angler with the 3 longest fish measured and there will be a prize for the longest fish, and a juvenile competition for anglers under 16 years old, measuring mats will be available on the day but if you have a mat please bring it, rules will be explained at registration. Fish welfare is most important so get your fish measured and back in the water as quickly as possible any angler seen to miss handle fish will be disqualified from the competition it only takes a few minutes to make sure all fish are swimming strong before they are released so please make an effort to see every fish goes back properly. Looking forward to seeing ye all back again for this great event and I hope ye all enjoy the day. Prizes will be presented in Blanchfields pub with finger food and a raffle afterwards. Entry fee for competition is adults €15 and juvenile €5

Nice to see fisheries board doing a patrol this morning badly needed as there are a group down fishing who are nothing to do with angling and are causing a lot of damage to the fish in the area, please if you observe anything which you thing is wrong please report it to the number on this post 0818347424 its a confidential number but its very important to report these individuals, 95% of the people who come to enjoy the fishing in St Mullins are genuine anglers but its that 5% who are only there to take every fish they catch who are giving us all a bad reputation please report these individuals and help us to keep St Mullins a great fishing destination
