Our Story:
ATWAS (All The Worlds A Stage) Theatre Tours started from the notion that people travel to pursue their passions. There are cooking tours, language tours, biking tours, history tours, so why not theatre tours? As an academic, I taught theatre history and I was compelled to explore the history and development of world theatre in situ. That in itself is an ongoing and huge task but suffice to say that the history of theatre in the western world started in Ancient Greece.
So in our first tour, we explore the Ancient Greek texts, in English, and we head off to Greece to explore the plays in the context of the landscape, the history, the social and political conditions, the archeology and of course, Greek culture. Along the way we have endless summer, the awe and wonder of Athens and other sites such as Mycenae, Delphi and of course, the most famous [amphi]theatre in the world, Epidavros.
Our trip quite deliberately coincides with the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, where we totally indulge our love of theatre, both in Epidavros and in Athens.
All in all, ATWAS is about theatre in situ. Greek theatre in Greece. Spanish theatre in Spain. Russian theatre in Russia... and more and more and...so all the world is a stage and we’d love you to come and explore it with us.
