Westmoreland County Community College is offering a non-credit class on "The History of Bushy Run Battlefield" this spring! Scott Perry, a longtime volunteer at our battlefield, will be teaching the class on Wednesday, April 2 from 6p-9p. We are SO proud of the graphic arts students at Westmoreland County Community College who are in the top 5 teams in the America250PA Direct Effect Innovation Challenge for college students. They compete in the final round at the State Capital in Harrisburg today at 1 p.m. Watch at https://pcntv.com/channel-4

They were tasked with creating a marketing plan for the Pennsylvania Turnpike's solar energy and sustainability program. They created an original superhero called A New Dawn and a full plan to engage their audience by reviving historical superheroes from past Turnpike comics. They presented their project at the Laurel Highlands America's 250th Summit and inspired many community leaders with their creativity.

⭐ REGISTER TODAY for the Laurel Highlands America's 250th Summit on 11/8/24! This will be a special cross industry-business-culture-government event to bring together leaders from Fayette, Somerset & Westmoreland counties to be inspired and propelled into planning special events and activities for America’s 250th. It will take place at Westmoreland Community College on 11/8/24 and a flyer is attached.

­­­­We are also planning a Teacher Seminar for High School and College teachers in all disciplines, but especially in History, English and Art on a classroom initiative to create a Laurel Highlands Heritage Trail of historical markers. The Teacher Seminar will take place on 11/7/24 at 3:45 pm at Historical Hanna's Town.

The Compass Inn was a welcome rest stop for travelers in Westmoreland County in the 18th and 19th centuries.
