Hello everybody!
Sorry it has been a while since I posted a blog and some pictures. I have just been enjoying traveling and the company I was with to much to take the time to write and upload some pictures.
After I travelled Australia and new-Zealand with my sister I took a flight to Borneo where I spend 3 weeks. I landed in Kota Kinabalu which is part of Malaysia. Here I relaxed a bit and planned the next few weeks I had left before I would meet Ben & Asha in Bangkok. I did a daytrip with the boat to Sapi Island where I did some snorkelling, not the best place I have been but I saw some nice things. Because of the bushfires in Indonesia it was a bit foggy around the whole of Borneo and you couldn’t see too far.
I met some European students who were studying in Singapore and they were on a short holiday in Kota Kinabalu and we visited Mount Kinabalu together. The weather was not great so we couldn’t see the top. My next stop was Sandakan on the east side of Borneo. From here you can go to Sepilok orangutan rehabilitation centre and the Kinabatangan River which is famous for its wildlife.
I booked a 3 day tour to the Kinabatangan River and did many boat rides on the river trying to spot monkeys. Proboscis and Macaque monkeys where there in plenty. I also did a night walk but there was not too much to see. During one of the hikes during the day we stopped a lake where you could get a free all-nature fish spa by just putting your feet in the water. There were also a lot of birds but that’s not really my thing.
After my trip to the jungle I visited the orangutan rehabilitation centre where they help orangutan who have been mistreated or who are orphan. My first encounter was while I was walking one of the trails and the orangutans are very nice to see in their natural environment. The also feed the orangutans and try to rehabilitate them so they can be released back into the wild.
One of the best dive sites in the world was my next stop. From Semporna you could do daytrips to the famous Sipadan. The coral and the fish here are just amazing. I did 6 dives from which I unfortunately don’t have any pictures (trying to get them for fellow divers). It was so nice diving again and being under the water. One of the dives at Sipadan Island was just amazing; I think we saw at least 20 turtles. There where turtles sleeping, feeding, gasping for air and just swimming all around us! After the diving it was time to meet up with Ben & Asha and start on another great adventure.
