Everyone knows the Art Institute of Chicago has one of the world's greatest art collections, but did you also know there are beautiful gardens located on either side of the building? I love how the sunlight illuminates the leaves and allium blooms. If you are interested in purchasing any of my photos, please click on the link in my bio.

Happy 175th birthday, Paul Gauguin! He was a 19th-century French Post-Impressionist painter who experimented with new color and a more flattened form. He actually spent 11 years working as a stock brocker before slowly becoming a painter full time with his fellow French painters Camille Pissarro and Paul Cézanne. He famously spent several weeks in 1888 painting in southern France with Vincent van Gogh. The French Impressionist, Edgar Degas, was his biggest supporter. He spent most of his final years living in French Polynesia, and many of his paintings depict the people and landscapes of that region.

The first 6 paintings are all part of the National Gallery of Art’s permanent collection. The last painting is on display at the Art Institute of Chicago. I took these photos during one of my multiple visits to and . Remember: Admission to the is always FREE. There is an admission fee into . Happy 424th birthday, Diego Velázquez! He was a 17th-century Baroque Spanish painter. He was such an accomplished painter that he eventually attained a position in the royal court of the Spanish King Philip IV. As with other 17th-century Baroque artists, Velázquez was influenced by the 17th-century Renaissance artists such as Michelangelo, Titian, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci.

Have you visited Maho Beach on the Caribbean island of St.Maarten? Several years ago we went there as our shore excursion while on a cruise. We saw many large jets land and take off including one of the last 747 jets. The KLM 747 was so huge flying over Maho Beach that I miscalculated when trying to take the photo and completely missed it. So here it sits just moments from taking off. NOTE: we were off to the side and not in the direct path of the engine thrust.

I took these photos during one of our cruise port visits to St.Maarten. If you are interested in purchasing any of my photos, please click on the link in my bio.
