On our journey across from the east to the west there was no way we could avoid a visit to Texas. It really did surprise me, it wasn't all red dirt, desert and cowboy hats and I really enjoyed what we saw! First we passed through a very small town called Beaumont where we watched the Super Bowl at Ho***rs. Which was a pretty fun night, we watched super bowl history with a tied game and enjoyed some good beer and yum food! [ 529 more words ]

As we continued our journey across the USA, we found ourselves crossing through both Mississippi and Alabama before coming to our next planned destination of New Orleans, Louisiana. Now I'm going to be honest, with my lack of knowledge of the USA states geography I had no idea we would be passing through these states. But I did really enjoy our journey through. As part of our USA experience we made our way to Miami for a few days. When we arrived the sun was shining and the weather was perfect, but that was probably the best part of Miami. Washington DC wasn't high on my list of cities to see. It's just the capital I thought. What can the capital actually offer. Well it turns out I was wrong about this capital and I really enjoyed my stay. And for the amount of really fantastic stuff on offer for free, very much worth adding to any USA tour list. We couldn't visit the USA without a stop in the big apple. New York is an interesting city, with lots of things on offer, but if I'm honest it may so far be my least favourite city. We had just arrived to the USA for Christmas but decided that it was not the place for us for new year celebrations. So off to Montreal in Canada it was. After months of travelling around Central and South America we were finally in the USA and of all places we chose the Windy City of Chicago. This was a huge difference from the hot sandy beaches of Brazil. Our Christmas in Chicago was lovely.For lunch we stuck to tradition and went and enjoyed an amazing buffet lunch at the Marriot. Travelling around the world with the person who matters most to you - something many people dream of, but rarely get to do. Lucky for us we have been able to do just that. 8 months ago, as of January 1st, we left in search of new experiences that just couldn't be offered from our normal lives back home. For the last 8 months we have made our way from the tequila, taco and tourist hub that is Mexico, where the sunshine and warm days are a complete normality, to southern Argentina, with the freezing wind chill and breathtaking glaciers lodged among the snow cap mountains and glacial blue waters. Rio is an interesting city. One day I loved it, the next day I was thinking what is all the hype. It is a place with much to see and do or a place where you can lay around and do nothing. But when we spent 5 days in Salvador the 14th most dangerous city in the world I feel I can say that a little. Salvador was the first capital of Brazil and had a rich colonial history. Our time in Brazil also took us to one of the biggest cities in the country. From some people we had heard that it wasn't much of a place to visit, but others had really enjoyed their stay. So we decided to spend a couple of nights in the city. After another overnight bus and, in fact what would be our last in South America, we arrived to the city and got right to exploring. Before making our way to Rio, our final stop of our South American adventure, we made a few interesting stops along the Brazillian coast. The first and the worst was Florianopolis and the island of Santa Catalina. This stop wasn't enjoyable for a few reasons, one was the crappy weather we experienced for pretty much all our 4 days, another was the fact I got pretty sunburnt for the one afternoon of sun. But to be honest I don’t think you would be doing yourself justice if you just chose one side, hence why I will talk about them together. Our time in Uruguay was extremely brief, in 5 nights we only managed to see the town of Colonia and the Capital of Montevideo - both very different but very nice. Colonia Old town 8/10 The old colonial style town, perfectly named 'Colonia', is a nice small town to spend about an hour walking through. While travelling through South America we couldn't pass up the chance to make our way over to Uruguay from Buenos Aires. It is so easy, so close and is a very interesting place itself to explore. We boarded an international ferry from Buenos Aires to our first stop, the picturesque colonial town, Colonia. We stayed about 7 nights total in Buenos Aires, in the districts of Palermo - the night life and nicer restaurant area, Centro - the high rise buildings, banks and historic buildings line every street, and Recoleta, with even more beautifully old historical buildings. If we had any tip to people travelling through it would be to stay in Palermo, the subte (subway) system will take you to just about anywhere in the city within 15 minutes so it's best to stay around an area closer to the massive parks and good food.
