Well Happy New Year and (belated) Christmas 😁. Hope everyone is well and full to the gills with holiday tucker! 😉
We have had the head down just pushing on for the last few months, my health issues continue to push the whole show sideways. We have made ground on probable cause with doctors now happy to acknowledge the evident timeframe of the onset of my problems, a solution is still out of sight at this stage.
Moving right along 😁, we are still poking along creating our little spot in the world, our plans of having a little bush camp are getting a bit of rethinking also. The touring/camping scene has changed so much in just the last 5 or 6 years, the proper old school tourers remain unchanged (the 'older' generation for want of a better word lol) and are largely still good hearted and lovely folk. But (without being judgemental or too descriptive) there is this whole new spectrum of younger people that have insane set ups and every second person has social media logos on vehicles which honestly doesn't worry us, but some of these people are barely approachable and seem unimpressed if you lack this new 'trendiness'. We have met some beautiful people in our travels, learnt new things and had fantastic experiences and we always imagined having a basic little bush camp where people, especially families, could congregate around a fire and a good meal in a friendly happy way. On our trip over here last year we pulled up at a few spots and completely felt out of place, not only that there was a distinct lack of 'friendliness', that warmness and genuineness that we were used to. You see it in town here during busy times also and is noticed by the locals. As an observer in the shops, the larger percentage of people are rude and arrogant, troubling though is anyone travelling or towing a van is painted with the same brush 😔.
We have had some good success over winter with our gardens, growing both food but cover crops to keep building soil. We compost pretty much everything from toilet paper rolls, food scraps (also get boxes of veg scraps from supermarket) to fish and seafood. Everything else gets put into our worm farm we made from a free bathtub and scrap steel from the dump and 2500 worms we got posted (the box turned up at Post Office with baby worms crawling out getting laughs from everyone 🤣). Outside of fire season we make sure at least one meal a week is outdoors around the fire. Our endeavour is primarily to make life as simple as possible and to enjoy it as much as possible, which can actually be a challenge sometimes 😆.
Will add a few photos, and leave everyone to nurse full bellies and try and work out where another year has gone! Lol.
We are going to say G'day more regularly (new years resolution 😀) and share photos and recipes as time goes on.
Stay safe and happy! ❣
P.S The sunrise photo was actually taken this morning, the first sunrise of 2024.
