Well Happy New Year and (belated) Christmas 😁. Hope everyone is well and full to the gills with holiday tucker! 😉
We have had the head down just pushing on for the last few months, my health issues continue to push the whole show sideways. We have made ground on probable cause with doctors now happy to acknowledge the evident timeframe of the onset of my problems, a solution is still out of sight at this stage.
Moving right along 😁, we are still poking along creating our little spot in the world, our plans of having a little bush camp are getting a bit of rethinking also. The touring/camping scene has changed so much in just the last 5 or 6 years, the proper old school tourers remain unchanged (the 'older' generation for want of a better word lol) and are largely still good hearted and lovely folk. But (without being judgemental or too descriptive) there is this whole new spectrum of younger people that have insane set ups and every second person has social media logos on vehicles which honestly doesn't worry us, but some of these people are barely approachable and seem unimpressed if you lack this new 'trendiness'. We have met some beautiful people in our travels, learnt new things and had fantastic experiences and we always imagined having a basic little bush camp where people, especially families, could congregate around a fire and a good meal in a friendly happy way. On our trip over here last year we pulled up at a few spots and completely felt out of place, not only that there was a distinct lack of 'friendliness', that warmness and genuineness that we were used to. You see it in town here during busy times also and is noticed by the locals. As an observer in the shops, the larger percentage of people are rude and arrogant, troubling though is anyone travelling or towing a van is painted with the same brush 😔.
We have had some good success over winter with our gardens, growing both food but cover crops to keep building soil. We compost pretty much everything from toilet paper rolls, food scraps (also get boxes of veg scraps from supermarket) to fish and seafood. Everything else gets put into our worm farm we made from a free bathtub and scrap steel from the dump and 2500 worms we got posted (the box turned up at Post Office with baby worms crawling out getting laughs from everyone 🤣). Outside of fire season we make sure at least one meal a week is outdoors around the fire. Our endeavour is primarily to make life as simple as possible and to enjoy it as much as possible, which can actually be a challenge sometimes 😆.
Will add a few photos, and leave everyone to nurse full bellies and try and work out where another year has gone! Lol.
We are going to say G'day more regularly (new years resolution 😀) and share photos and recipes as time goes on.
Stay safe and happy! ❣
P.S The sunrise photo was actually taken this morning, the first sunrise of 2024.

One of our passions in life (besides exploring this beautiful country of ours!) Is gardening. To grow our own food to help minimise the chemicals and nasties in everything we consume, to provide extra interesting and nutritious vegetables into our diet, to help save money but these days we also try to minimise our impact on the world we live in. Through composting, regenerative practices and creating an environment that is actually beneficial.
Getting crook so early on in our move was a massive blow but Wendy and Izak took it upon themselves on top of everything else to try and get gardens started. A lot of the knowledge and ideas live in my head and with the weird 'brain fog' stuff going on, some of that knowledge wasn't available. Izak had a lot of knowledge from having his own little market gardens back in QLD.... but was chalk and cheese. We don't have the black soil, the higher rainfall and milder summers (we saw 47deg in the shade here a few times last summer 🥵). Instead we have acidic sandy soil, less rain and a forgetful bloke that had planned all this out in his head! Lol.
Without getting right into it just yet, through a big effort we actually have some kale, radishes, mustard greens, spring onions, garlic and rocket growing along with heaps of parsley, tyme Oregano and sage.
Working in the gardens has been just a good way to get some gentle exercise and sun but it's a positive way to stir up the old grey matter (until everything dies because of acidic soil for 5th time 😄)
These couple of gardens were dug out and redone for the 3rd time back beginning of May and have been promising.
Our goal is something that is beneficial to us with delicious and nutritious food but also works in harmony with nature without inputting any negativity into the cycle.
All the inputs are within a 15min drive but over time will be more from its own system/cycle.
Over time we would like to share this with everyone, a little positivity and creativity in a world that seems to be a lacking a little in recent times!
Cheers Dan & Wendy
Edit: There are some yellowing leaves etc, there is a LOT of testing going with different practices and inputs 😁

With our very own piece of unique Australian bush in a pretty remote part of our beautiful country, what does one do? Enjoy it outside, around a fire with awesome food!
Part of this bizarre I'll health has been a kind of memory loss...'brain fog' we call it. Struggled to remember recipes or even skills to do stuff, so we try to have one meal a week cooked on and eaten around the fire as a family. Try and jump start the ol grey matter a bit 😆.
Thanks for all the wonderful comments and messages, we are working on doing more on here again and getting involved.
A few photos of our dinner Friday night, the smell of onions and garlic sweating in olive oil mixing with the wood smoke wafting though the clean bush air on dusk....its pretty alright!
We get stunning sunrises and sunsets so there is never any shortage of those photos too!
Take care ❣

Well we kind of did a bit of a disappearing act.....😄.
Been a crazy 12 months or so, we ended up moving over to Streaky Bay in SA last October and shortly after my health took a very sudden and bizarre side step and we've spent the last 7 months trying to sort everything out and keep me vertical. As someone that has always been strong and healthy, this has taken the wind out of the sails. But will regroup and keep on keeping on!😁.
A lot has changed in such a short amount of time, the young bloke that was only 6 months old and in a baby capsule when we bought the Navara....is now sporting half a beard and behind the drivers wheel lol. Izak has picked up a big interest in camp oven and bush cooking which is great because I get to have someone cook tucker for me!.
Will keep this short for now, but going to share a few pics that Wendy has been busy snapping!
Take care
