The North End Craftsman www.northendcraftsman.com During high school he absorbed as many shop classes as possible alongside college-prep classes. Walt is available for commission work.

Walt Woolf is a life-long craftsman who began his journey designing and building as a young boy in his Dad’s in-home basement workshop. Much of Walt’s inspiration still comes from his affinity for working with his hands and mind together. Additional key influences stem from his experiences living and working in some of the most beautiful and rugged landscapes in the world as a river guide and Outw

ard Bound instructor. Walt happily led expeditions and personally explored the mountains, rivers, desert canyons, and inland salt waters of the western, southwestern, Pacific Northwestern and Alaskan wilderness of the United States and around the globe. His work intends to highlight this beauty inherent in the natural world while also upholding his training and attention to low impact practices. His minimalist approach to design and construction incorporates natural and man-made objects, in particular reclaimed wood. Walt also enjoys working in clay, stone, bone, rock, leather & canvas/cotton. He describes his design-build philosophy as “economy of design and construction”. Economy is in the conscious effort to design and build efficiently from reclaimed, found, re-purposed or green-manufactured materials, and minimal use of energy and other resources when re-milling or otherwise altering a material’s original form. Walt is further influenced by the simple, elegant lines of Asian and mid-century design. He actively supports creating a sustainable economy and continually seeks materials and finishes that are non-toxic, highly renewable and reclaimed. Walt makes his home in the south Puget Sound area of the Pacific Northwest and enjoys his family life, ocean paddling, skiing, biking, hiking, photgraphy and designing and creating unique & useful objects from reclaimed and repurposed materials.

It is said best by the client I did this project for and that was posted on her own page: "After 30 years, our front gate was falling apart. It wouldn't close properly, and it rattled in the wind. Fortunately, we knew just the person to build a new one: Walt Woolf, friend and neighbor, master woodworker and craftsman, who also built the amazing mid-century inspired vanity in our bathroom remodel in 2013....

NEC for The North End Craftsman. The bench top, except for the oak lining the sides, is built from fir that was original to our 1940 home. The top was glued together in three sections and run through a wide-belt sander making it perfectly flat. The three sections are through-bolted from the sides to allow the top to "breath"(shrink and swell) through the seasons....

These chairs are based on an Adirondack chair geometry except a bit taller and without the long leg sticking out the back. They were mostly built from reclaimed cedar from a deck modification project and a few purchased 5/4" cedar stock. They are through-bolted in many places and in others fastened with exterior screws. The first photo shows them within weeks of their initial construction in November of 2012 and the second photo taken just today after a morning rain....

Here are a couple short time lapses of installing the glass panels in the cabinet doors and then the doors onto the cabinet in our kitchen and a mini celebration. The glass panels were custom-ordered from a local glass company, Sound Glass, to fit my door frames. They said it would be within 1/16" tolerance of what I gave them, and it was but 1/16" on the larger size is what I got......
