Yak Track Adventures & Expeditions We are an Australian-Nepalese Trekking company whose aim is to provide a long-term solution by helping to bring tourism back to the Himalayas. Why choose us?

Welcome to Yak Tracks
Our aim is to provide long-term solutions to the Nepalese people affected by the recent earthquake by helping to bring tourism back to the Himalayas. Nepal was devastated by the earthquake and many people are still struggling without a livelihood. There is now a greater need for tourists to travel to this beautiful country than ever before. Nearly half a million Nepalese are

dependent on income from visitors. A smaller trekking company means a more personal experience. With a genuine Australian and Nepalese relationship you can be sure to get exceptional service. When choosing a larger company, money is often diverted to other organisational needs and staff, meaning that the local employees don’t receive their fair share. With Yak Tracks your money goes directly to the local guides, porters and staff who have been directly affected by the earthquake. Born and raised in the Himalayas, our guides are trekking experts. Our assistant guides, porters and trekking staff are carefully chosen by us to ensure that help is reaching those who need it most. We offer a variety of treks, whether you are looking for an off-the-beaten-track adventure (which will enlighten you and bring income to those in remote areas), a cultural experience (stay with the locals, immerse yourself in Tibetan Buddhism, join a pilgrimage, or experience the joyous festivals), or is Everest Base Camp next on your bucket list? Our tracks are suited to people of all ages and budgets. With local contacts and personal relationships with the Sherpa’s of the Himalayas, at Yak Tracks you can be sure that you are in safe hands. We are specialists in mountain rescue and evacuation, high altitude sickness and travel health. Why Nepal? It’s a land of majestic grandeur and sublime beauty. It’s a land of crystal-clear air, bright sunshine and spectacular views. It’s a wild and unpredictable place, populated by a tenacious and gentle people. It’s a land where many have travelled for introspection and an attempt to find their Shangri-la. Nepal is the ultimate destination for those seeking adventure, meaning and culture. Nepal is safe and it needs you. About us
Angbhai Sherpa has been a trekking guide for 10 years. Born in the remote mountains of the Himalaya he is an expert in high altitude trekking. He has walked the path to Everest Base Camp over 100 times, guiding trekkers safely in the shadows of the tallest mountains on Earth. As well as speaking several languages; English, Nepalese, Hindi, Tibetan and Sherpa, his kind-hearted nature and can-do attitude make him a great leader. He has led trekkers all around the Himalayas, including popular treks such as Annapurna, Gokyo Lakes and Island Peak, as well off-the-beaten-track trips to Tibet, Dolpo and Mustang. He has also worked in the foothills of Mont Blanc, France, for 7 years. His greatest achievement was reaching the summit of Everest in 2011. After trekking to Nepal on a solo adventure, Ruby fell in love with the country, the culture and the people… and Angbhai Sherpa. After returning numerous times to explore the Himalayas, Ruby and Angbhai married with a traditional Buddhist Ceremony in the foothills of the mountains. Ruby is a Nurse and a Midwife, with a passion for the outdoors and travel. On treks she provides first aid, travel health advice, and is knowledgeable about the dangers of altitude sickness. Angbhai and Ruby live together in Perth and travel regularly to Nepal.

ENLIGHTEN YOURSELF
To make your experience truly unique align your trek with the spectacular Mani Rimdu Festival. The trek to Tengboche is a trip in itself (see our Everest View Trek). Wandering through mountainside paths this trek leads you through the heart of the Khumbu region, to Namche, a bustling alpine village nestled into the mountainside. Khumbu is home to the mighty Sherpa people, their hospitality and kind-hearted nature unparalleled. Enjoy spectacular views of the highest point on earth, Everest, from Tengboche. Over 30 monks reside here at the highest monastery in Nepal. It is one of the most important religious Buddhist sites for the Sherpa people and hundreds gather here for the auspicious Mani Rimdu Festival. Immerse yourself in Buddhism during a 3-day stay at Tengboche for the Festival. Learn about the significance of this celebration to the Sherpa people.

About the Festival
This auspicious festival is celebrated by the Tibetan and Sherpa Lamas (Monks) and locals. It is a 19 day affair that culminates in a three day public celebration of empowerment. Mani Rimdu is the colourful and powerful reenactment of a legend - the establishment of Buddhism in Tibet by the Great Saint Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche). The re-creation of this legend is conveyed through ongoing rituals of dance and music to offer the Buddhist teachings in a way that all will understand. Through Chham (the masked dance of the Monks) and Pujas (rituals) positive forces clash with negative and through the chaos the demons are conquered. Pujas are performed around the clock and mantras (‘Om Ah Hung Rhi, Om Mani Padme Hung’) are chanted over and over to consecrate the Mani Rilwu Pills (sacred pills), the Tshereel (pills for long life) and the Torma. Lamas take days of meticulous concentration and compassionate meditation to create The Mandala, made from coloured sand that is lain grain by grain. The mandala emanates this compassion to bless all those who worship at the Mani Rimdu Festival.

The sacred pills and the pills for long life are given to those who attend The Wong (The Empowerment) - the opening public ceremony held on the 10th month in the Tibetan lunar calendar - the full moon.
