Happy New Year Islamabadians 🎊

31/12/2024

As the New Year draws near, significant congestion is expected on both pedestrian walkways and roadways across Pakistan, particularly in major cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. The festive atmosphere, featuring fireworks and various celebrations, will commence on the evening of December 31 and continue well into the early hours of January 1, 2025. While these events bring festive cheer, they also present a range of safety concerns.

To ensure your safety during this period, please take note of the following guidelines:

PERSONAL SAFETY GUIDELINES:
Stay Alert:

Maintain a constant awareness of your environment.
Avoid crowded spaces, including shopping malls, restaurants, parks, and other popular gathering locations unless absolutely necessary.
Plan Your Travel:

Plan your routes in advance to avoid congested areas or places with large crowds.
Limit travel during peak celebration hours, particularly between 10:00 PM on December 31 and 2:00 AM on January 1, when aerial firing and fireworks are most common.
Stay Informed:

Keep up with local news broadcasts and social media updates for real-time information on traffic, road closures, and any potential security issues.
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES AHEAD:
Overcrowded Locations: Expect unusually large crowds in popular public spaces such as shopping centers, eateries, and parks.
Heavy Traffic: Be prepared for intense vehicular congestion, particularly around celebration spots, which may result in significant delays.
Increased Police Presence: Increased police presence and the establishment of additional checkpoints may be seen in many areas. It’s essential to comply with all instructions given by authorities.
Unexpected Road Closures: Stay alert for sudden road blockages, particularly near venues where fireworks will be set off.
Fireworks Hazards: While aerial firing is a customary celebration, it presents a considerable safety hazard. It’s best to avoid open spaces during peak hours of celebration to reduce the risk of injury.
TIPS FOR STAYING SAFE:
Remain indoors during the busiest hours, particularly between 10:00 PM and 2:00 AM.
If you must venture out, choose routes that are well-lit and less crowded.
Refrain from lingering near locations where fireworks are scheduled or where large groups are congregating.
Your safety is of utmost importance. By staying alert and adhering to these safety measures, you can enjoy a safe and festive start to 2025. Let’s embrace the New Year with caution and care.

Wishing you a secure and joyful New Year celebration
