TWO SPECIAL EVENTS COMING UP THIS WEEKEND

BEACH Buddies has two major events this coming weekend, the biggest being on Saturday when we join in with a team from Blythe Financial at the Point of Ayre on Saturday morning at 10.30am.

Blythe Financial, owned by husband and wife Alan and Sue Blythe, are sponsors of one of our Big Beach Bins at the Ballaghennie Ayres Nature Reserve, and it’s already working a treat.

We will meet at the Point of Ayre lighthouse and then split the group to tackle a section of approximately two miles down towards Ballaghennie.

Afterwards, we will have hot drinks and snacks at the Ayres Nature Reserve, so please come along and enjoy the occasion and get together afterwards.

Then, on Sunday, we join with Braddan Commissioners and Zero Waste Mann, another of our bin sponsors, for a session at Port Soderick as part of the “No Waste in Braddan” campaign. This will also be another nice event to be involved in, and the chance to meet lots of new volunteers.

If you live in the area, or know anyone who does, please encourage them to come along and join in a great event, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere with like-minded people who care about the planet.

The session starts at 10.30am. As always, at both events Beach Buddies will provide all the necessary equipment and dispose of the materials collected afterwards, recycling where possible, using the Sandy B trailer.

Sponsors who have very generously kept us going include AFD Software, SITA, WDS Limited, DoI, The Scott Trust, the Elizabeth Clucas Trust, the Society for the Preservation of the Manx Countryside, Blythe Financial, Aston International, Charlie’s Mum and Dad, Zero Waste Mann, Andy Kerruish, Lloyds Bank, Bobby Sadler Agricultural and Juan Knight OffRoad.

And we have thousands and thousands of great volunteers, who cannot be thanked enough for their wonderful efforts these last few years to transform our beautiful coastline, and thousands more people who perhaps don’t get involved in a practical or financial way, or perhaps aren’t physically able to take part, but who really like what we are trying to do - and we know their hearts are with us.

There are also the many, many people who don’t join in our organised sessions, but who pick up a bag from one of our Beach Buddies Big Beach Bins, or take their own bags when they go walking, and pick up just a handful of items to “make a difference”. Together, you are all doing a wonderful, wonderful job - keep going, there’s loads more great stuff to come and unlimited ideas. Watch this space!!

A UNIQUE sponsorship opportunity for one of the “Beach Buddies Big Beach Bins” has become available at the most beautiful location in the entire Isle of Man - Niarbyl Bay.

Patrick Commissioners have agreed to one of the bins being placed at the access point to the beach, where the distinctive thatched roof cottages are classic images included in probably every tourism brochure that has ever been produced for the Island.

This is also an opportunity for a sponsor to become very closely associated with Beach Buddies, as (breaking news) we have recently been granted a 3-year lease on the beautiful Knockuskey Cottage - the little white cottage hidden around the corner - which will be used as a visitor centre for Beach Buddies, with a particular emphasis as an educational facility for schools, to highlight the damage that waste causes to the planet, and especially to marine animals and seabirds.

The Knockuskey Beach Buddies Visitor Centre (for which further sponsorship opportunities are available) will open soon, but not until the footpath to the cottage - heavily battered in the winter storms - has been safely restored. We estimate this will be September, possibly slightly later.

The sponsorship arrangement for the Beach Buddies Big Beach Bin is for three years and includes a large poster in a prominent unmissable position, which can be changed at any time.

This is THE number one most spectacular position for a Beach Buddies bin.

LAST MINUTE REMINDER

BEACH BUDDIES has had wonderful media coverage this week about our world record beach cleaning attempt with Ramsey Grammar School and we're told that television, radio and newspapers will all be there tomorrow morning for the event.

Please come along and bring as many friends as possible with you - we need about 170 volunteers / friends / mates / hangers-on / anyone to get the record.

There will be a special little gift for everyone too - special wristbands for every single volunteer, which have been kindly provided by Ramsey Grammar School.

All volunteers should meet at the swimming pool end of the North Ramsey Mooragh Promenade at 9am, for a 9.20am start, finishing at 10am.

Please come along - it will be a memorable occasion, not to be missed!

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS - WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT ON FRIDAY !!!

WORLD RECORD BEACH CLEAN ATTEMPT - PLEASE JOIN IN

BEACH Buddies and Ramsey Grammar School are teaming up in a bid to create a new world record for the most people involved in one single beach cleaning session, this Friday morning (June 27th) at 9am on Ramsey North beach.

It will be a great event, and volunteers are needed to try to reach 1,000 people to join the 800 from Ramsey Grammar School. Even if you’ve never been on a beach cleaning session before, this is a very easy event to take part in, and all the necessary equipment needed - gloves, bags and litter pickers - will be provided, and the rubbish will be recycled after collection. The event will last no more than 1 hour.

Ramsey Commissioners are also getting involved by removing the rubbish afterwards. Beach Buddies also has support from SITA, WDS Ltd and the DoI, and will be using the Sandy Bairstow trailer during the event.

If you can help, please turn up on the North promenade at the swimming pool end at 9am on Friday.
