Fondazione Zeffirelli ✨ A Must-See in Florence
Dedicated to the late Franco Zeffirelli, a Florence-born film director renowned for over seven decades, Fondazione Zeffirelli is a haven for opera enthusiasts! Located in the San Firenze Complex, a late-Baroque palazzo with a history as the city’s tribunal and courthouse, the exhibition unfolds in 20 rooms, each representing a chapter, starting from 1953.

Running until February 18th, the Music Room hosts the extraordinary exhibition “Romeo&Giulietta,” showcasing Danilo Donati’s Oscar-winning costumes from Zeffirelli’s 1968 film adaptation. Witness over thirty original costumes worn by Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, crafted by the renowned Cerratelli Art House, which earned accolades like the Silver Ribbon, the British Academy Film Award, and the Academy Award Oscar in 1968.

Finally, room 14, or Sala Inferno is entirely dedicated to Dante’s Inferno project, which Zeffirelli never completed. Fifty-one sketches are displayed here and scenographically projected onto the ceiling and walls.

One of my favorite neighborhood restaurants in Venice. Food never disappoints and the atmosphere...well, you have to try it to understand. This lively osteria, not far from the Jewish Ghetto, is the perfect place for an authentic Venetian meal. The vibe is low key, live music to keep you entertained and the food consists of seafood dishes and vegetable platters, hearty pasta dishes or some cicchetti (finger foods). The Baccalà Mantecato (creamed dried cod served on slices of crusty bread) is to die for! Make sure you book in advance, as it can get very busy.

Today is Marti Gras; the last day of the Carnevale di Venezia. Thousands of people have travelled to Venice to experience the magnificent Carnival; walking around celebrating and going to evening masquerade balls in this city's magical scenery. Who wouldn't want to take part in a truly exceptional happening like this? Those mysterious, Venetian masks, alleyways, gondolas, beautiful piazzas are part of what we imagine the Venetian world would have been like 300 years ago. They are an irresistible attraction for what is undoubtedly one of the world's most unique experiences: the re-living of 18th century Venice. If you have not been, make sure to put this one on your bucket list!
