Dare County Control Group Hurricane Matthew Bulletin #10
Curfews Have Been Lifted
The curfews that were in place last evening for Unincorporated Dare County and the Towns of Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, and Southern Shores have all been lifted.
Access North of Oregon Inlet
At the present time there is Priority 3 entry for Non-Resident Property Owners and Non-Resident Employees of Businesses for areas north of Oregon Inlet and for the Currituck Outer Banks.
Access to Hatteras Island
Previous restrictions for access to Hatteras Island remain in place. Effective 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, Hatteras Island Non-Resident Property Owners and Non-Resident Employees of Businesses will be allowed access to Hatteras Island with proper identification.
No Access for Visitors at this time
Dare County Emergency Management and local officials are working to ensure that infrastructure and services are in place to properly accommodate visitors to Dare County.
Updates regarding visitor reentry will be announced as soon as a determination can be made, however no announcements are expected before Tuesday afternoon.
Closures and service announcements
Dare County Schools
All Dare County Schools will be closed Tuesday, October 11. Twelve-month employees use code 3. The Board of Education meeting for October 11 is canceled.
Dare County Offices
Dare County Offices will be operating on a normal schedule Tuesday, October 11.
Dare County District Court
Court scheduled for Tuesday, October 11 has been cancelled. Anyone having a court date scheduled for the 11th will be notified by US mail with their new court date. Questions or concerns may be directed to the Dare County Clerks Office at 252-475-5200 upon reopening.
Trash Pickup by Dare County Public Works
Dare County Public Works customers scheduled for trash collection on Monday will receive service on Tuesday. Tuesday’s customers will receive service on Wednesday.
Town of Duck
Due to clean up efforts, the Duck Fire Annual Open House originally scheduled for Tuesday October 11, will now take place on Tuesday, October 18 from 5:00 – 7:00 at the Duck Public Safety Building located at 1259 Duck Road. Trash, but not recycling will be collected on Tuesday, October 11.
Town of Kill Devil Hills
Garbage collection will resume Tuesday, October 11, 2016 with collections west of US 158/Croatan Highway; east of US 158 will be collected on Wednesday, October 12th with regular collections resuming on Thursday.
Residential curbside recycling collection by Bay Disposal has been delayed by one day in KDH. Regular collection east of US 158 will be on Tuesday the 11th, and west of US 158 will be collected on Wednesday the 12th. Questions may be directed to Bay Disposal, 252-491-5105.
Dry trash yard and Recycling Drop-off Center will reopen for public use on Tuesday, October 11th at 8:00 a.m.
Streets in Kill Devil Hills with standing water are closed until the water recedes from the roadway enough not to endanger property and/or life. The Town reminds all drivers to realize the damage done to homes and business properties by making waves (wakes) with vehicles.
Please, help those who have damaged properties and vehicles to not incur more damage due to curiosity and recreation. Residents and visitors are reminded that electrical service has not yet been fully restored in Kill Devil Hills.
If you are visiting our area please call your rental unit’s property management company immediately if electrical issues are identified, including but not limited to: outlets that may spark when accessed, dampness or wetness around electrical appliances, downed wire, etc. Remember – be safe!
Please stay at least 30′ away from downed wires and trees making contact with wires. Call Dominion North Carolina Power at 866-366-4357 to report a downed wire. Town of Kitty Hawk
NC HWY 12 has been undermined by ocean overwash at the Kitty Hawk Bath House near the intersection of E. Kitty Hawk Road and that portion of NC 12 between White Street and Starfish is is closed.
Pumping operations have begun at Byrd Street and the Town is working to set up additional pumps at affected areas between the highways. The Town’s Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Open House scheduled for Wednesday, October
12th has been cancelled.
Sanitation Collection Resumes Tuesday. We will attempt to empty the TRASH carts of all Nags Head residences tomorrow, Tuesday, October 11. PLEASE ROLL OUT YOUR CART TONIGHT.
If we are unable to empty your cart on Tuesday, we will be by on Wednesday to empty it. We will empty recycling carts on the Green and Red Routes as usual on Wednesday.
We are working to get the water lowered in the north end of town between the highways. Crews are checking for obstructions and clearing drainage ways to keep water moving. In addition, we’re working with state agencies to obtain more assistance with pumping out the water.
We are also working with Dominion Power to get power
restored to all areas of town.
Town of Southern Shores
Monday’s trash and recycle collection service for the Town of Southern Shores has been rescheduled and will be serviced on Tuesday, October 11th. Use caution if walking or driving on streets under tree canopies, trees may still be leaning and limbs may still be hanging. Please do not attempt to drive through standing water.
