I decided that my copy of the North Yorkshire Moors Eastern Area map, was a little old and out of date, and luckily the lovely folks at Ordnance Survey had sent me a code for three maps for £23.

Steve tells me that I don't need a new map, but I don't need that kind of negativity in my life...

So I've ordered 6, just to get my money's worth.

It's been a busy week at Wild Rambling Towers...

Final preparations are underway for our Whitby trip in a few weeks. It's going to be a corker, even though I say so myself.

And bookings open for Dartington tomorrow at 8am - it's not too late to request info, just drop me a message with your email address on it.

I'll be ready for a potter in the garden this weekend. What are you all upto?

So the first Wild Rambling holiday of 2024 is complete - thank you to all the very wonderful women who joined me in Cheddar, you were totally fabulous!

But now it's time to think about the next one... Who is looking forward to Whitby???

Day Five: Wild Rambling in The Mendips

Some of the group said their goodbyes after breakfast, and the remainder of us headed off for one last walk - a circuit of the Cheddar Reservoir. Flat and mud free, ever so slightly different from the last four days!!!

A final coffee stop, then we went our separate ways.

I want to thank my lovely Wild Ramblers this week for their flexibility with regards to some very tricky logistics, and stoic attitude to the never-ending mud! Thank you my darlings ###

Day Four: Wild Rambling in The Mendips

We slipped and slid down the hill from Priddy to Wells today, via Ebbor Gorge and Wookey Hole. There was plenty of mud, and also Cheddar flavoured ice-cream ( but not together).

Wells was very very nice. We had a fabulous guided tour with a lovely lady called Siobhan, then I had half a cider in the pub from Hot Fuzz.

So lucky with the weather today - we only had rain when we got into Wells (see photo), and it didn't last that long.

Day Three: Wild Rambling in The Mendips

Today was the day of the very large stiles. Much hilarity all round.

It was a short walk today from Priddy back to Cheddar. We had time for a wonderful lunchbreak in the sunshine; with a short mindfulness session / almost nap, filled with nine beautiful types of birdsong (thanks to the Merlin App).

Then some of us braved the crowds in Cheddar Gorge, to visit one of the show caves. We thoroughly enjoyed this!

Looking forward to our well deserved Thai meal this evening.

Day Two: Wild Rambling in The Mendips

A little shower as we travelled to the start of today's walk, but blue skies thereafter!

Such a mix of terrain today - quiet drovers' roads, then forest tracks relatively busy with dog walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders, followed by the hordes on the Cheddar Gorge path.

Well done lovelies. Another difficult day with lots of mud and limestone paths to contend with!

Day One: Wild Rambling in The Mendips

After yesterday's downpour, we were a little concerned about the weather, but we were so lucky with some blue skies, and just the odd heavy shower.

But of course, there was sooo much mud! Well done lovelies ###

I am so excited to launch 3 long haul destinations for 2025. The bestseller, Costa Rica, in January. This time next week, I'll be heading off to Cheddar to guide the Wild Rambling in The Mendips holiday.

Cake preparations continue - flapjack and almond biscuits cooked this morning.

I have to stay away from the biscuits, or my walking trousers won't fit, but they are very tasty...

First cake made for the Wild Rambling in The Mendips holiday in a few weeks.

Doesn't look much but it's the infamous chocolate and beetroot loaf.

Once it's cooled, it will go into the freezer, away from temptation...

You may or may not know that Wild Rambling is something that I do in my spare time, as I have a full time job as well. This is why there are only a handful of holidays each year; I have to fit guiding them into my work holidays.

On the database, there is a very loyal group of fabulous women who book again and again. Fun fact: one third of all women who have been on a Wild Rambling holiday, have been on five or more!

But that doesn't mean that new Wild Ramblers aren't very welcome! You just have to put your name on the priority list when a holiday is announced, to be amongst the first to get holiday and booking information.

And then, you have to be really really quick! The Knaresborough 2025 holiday went on sale on Tuesday at 19.00, and was full less than 24 hours later. Utterly crazy, but so very lovely.

Thank you so much to everyone who has booked a holiday with me. You are all amazing, and I can't wait to see you.

Happy Friday lovelies!

PS if you would like to join us, there is ONE SPACE left on the Wales holiday in May 2025. But don't worry, I'm working on some more 2025 trips at the moment, so watch this space!

Steve asked why I was up so early; I said it's because it felt like Christmas, and I couldn't wait to see who had booked on the Knaresborough holiday last night.

Bookings opened at 19.00, with six people submitting their booking form dead on time. And all the rooms were gone by 22.12.

I am utterly gobsmacked by this. Utterly bonkers.
