I needed to be in Coventry tomorrow, so came up on Friday to recce the walks for the January Rambling and Pilates weekend.

Managed to fit a lot into a short space of time, despite the yucky weather. Yesterday was spent exploring the National Forest Park around Moira, and today I visited Calke Abbey.

One urban industrial, and one rural stately home parkland. Two lovely, and very different walks.

Calke Abbey was my marginal favourite, because there was a secondhand book shop, a Christmas Fair (because of course I need more tree decorations, even though I bought some yesterday), and the cafe had yummy cheese scones...

This week I am Facebook monitor for Womens Outdoor Holidays, and I'm talking about staying safe in the hills.

I know it's all common sense, but I hope everyone can learn at least one thing from this week's posts.

Today, I've posted about weather, and then I'll be talking about kit, useful skills, and how to call for help should you need it. Follow the Womens Outdoor Holidays page if you are interested in knowing more :-)

The Mountain Weather Information Service provides weather forecasts to aid mountain safety for 10 upland regions across the UK.

We often discuss Raynor Winn's books on Wild Rambling holidays, and I think it's fair to say that they usually have a marmite reaction.

What are your thoughts? Will you be going to see the film? I'm interested in the casting of Gillian Anderson, although there is some facial resemblance. And Jason Isaacs will always be Lucius Malfoy to me!!!

Nothing says Autumn like walking through woodland. Lesley shared this wonderful article with me, as we are heading to the National Forest soon for a Wild Rambling and Pilates weekend.

I have to admit that I've never been before, so I'm very much looking forward to it.

Which is your favourite area of woodland to walk in during Autumn or any other time? Photos if you have them please!

What a beautiful Autumn weekend it was! I hope you all got a chance to enjoy it.

I took one of our collies (Briar, who loves to pose for photos as you can see) on a fabulous walk locally - visiting Mulfra Quoit, Bodrifty Beehive Houses, Nine Maidens Stone Circle, and Greenburrow Engine House and the D**g D**g Mine area, with far of views of both the north and south costs of West Penwith.

Where did you walk this weekend? I'd love to see your photos!

It's been fabulous to see all of you in Wild Rambling t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies this year, but I still didn't manage to get a group photo, argh!

I've already got a few of you on the list for new kit, but I need 10 items to place the order. The printer has shared the whole catalogue with me, and we now also have access to women's fit tops (round and v neck), polo shirts and long sleeved t-shirts (in colours other than black). You can even order a t-shirt dress or tank top.

We have Wild Rambling branded water bottles too!

If you would like me to email across the catalogue, for your shopping pleasure - please let me know!

Ah this just came up in my Facebook memories!

Back from a fabulously sunny holiday walking the SWCP from Portscatho to Polperro. To keep my mind off the hills, I came up with this little ditty inspired by Spanish Ladies - it's not Shakespeare but I hope it raises a smile...

Farewell and adieu to you, St Austell
Farewell and adieu to you, Francesca and Mark
For we have received orders to ramble to Polperro
But we hope, very soon, to see you again

We'll rant and we'll roar, like true Wild Ramblers
We'll rant and we'll roar, along the coast path
With smiles, despite searing pain from our thighs
From 'Scatho to 'Perro 'tis 45 miles

We hove our feet to, with the wind at the sou'west
We hove our feet to, and the sun it shone bright
Up hill and down dale, we toiled in the sunshine
Still Jelly Babies and Minstrels made us feel alright

We'll rant and we'll roar, like true Wild Ramblers
We'll rant and we'll roar, along the coast path
With smiles, despite searing pain from our thighs
From 'Scatho to 'Perro 'tis 45 miles

Well the first town we sighted, we knew it as Portloe
Next Gorran, Mevagissey, Charlestown, Par and Fowey,
We trekked along beaches, by beacons and tearooms
Until we reached Polperro, with hearts full of joy

We'll rant and we'll roar, like true Wild Ramblers
We'll rant and we'll roar, along the coast path
With smiles, despite searing pain from our thighs
From 'Scatho to 'Perro 'tis 45 miles

When the signal was made that we’d found Polperro
We rushed to the taxi to transport us home
Get the sauna on standby, and the wine flowing
With the miles behind us, no more need to roam

We'll rant and we'll roar, like true Wild Ramblers
We'll rant and we'll roar, along the coast path
With smiles, despite searing pain from our thighs
From 'Scatho to 'Perro 'tis 45 miles

Now let every girl drink off her full bumper
And let every girl drink off her full glass
We'll drink and be jolly and ignore our blisters
And toast to the health of each Wild Rambling lass

We'll rant and we'll roar, like true Wild Ramblers
We'll rant and we'll roar, along the coast path
With smiles, despite searing pain from our thighs
From 'Scatho to 'Perro 'tis 45 miles.

Sometimes it's not always about the walking *

On our Dartington holiday next July, I'm so looking forward to taking my group on this fabulous tour of South Devon!

We'll be travelling by steam train, river boat and bus, visiting the quaint towns of Paignton, Dartmouth and Totnes.

There are a couple of rooms left on this holiday if you want to join us. Just drop me a message.

* There will be walking as well, of course! Clare, Barbara and I have some fabulous walks planned on Dartmoor, along the South West Coast Path, and The John Musgrave Trail, taking in Greenway (home of Agatha Christie) and Coleton Fishacre. We'll also be doing the Treasure Trail around Totnes (if you know, you know)!

We've got that weekend feeling. ☀️

Have you heard about our Round Robin Ticket?

Hop aboard the bus at Paignton and take a trip to Totnes. After exploring all that the town has to offer take the River Cruise to Dartmouth, cross over to Kingswear on the ferry & enjoy the Steam Train back to Paignton.

The perfect day out for all the family. ❤

Today is a very very special day for me, as it marks the 12th anniversary of my beloved Wild Rambling.

This morning, I've spent some time going through the photos on the Gallery page on the website, and adding some new ones from this year. Such happy memories! I can put names to all the faces, and it is utterly joyous to see the same lovely women in so many different photos.

To those of you who have been on this journey with me, in whatever capacity, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Happy anniversary to us!

I’m a very happy Helen, having just returned from a totally fantastic holiday in Northumberland. Wild Rambling in Northumberland Day Seven:

The final morning was mainly spent with me trying to offload the leftover food to various members of the group, and big hugs and teary goodbyes.

I must say a few words of inadequate thanks to the wonderful team of Barbara, Sarah and Tracy.

Sarah and Tracy created and served four INCREDIBLE evening meals, and seven delicious breakfasts with total aplomb. Not to mention rustling up homemade bread and cakes. Always smiling, nothing was too much trouble.

I really cannot thank you both enough. It was way beyond my expectations, and the feedback from the group was fantastic. Please please come with us again. When you have recovered...

And finally the total legend that is Barbara. My absolute rock. Guide extraordinaire, and maker of the most delicious tuna mayo! Thank you for trusting me, and going along with the most complicated itinerary ever. I couldn't have done it without you darling!

Finally, a massively heartfelt thank you to the group of incredible and inspirational women that I spent my wonderful week with. Your company was utterly joyful, and words can't describe what your support means to me.

Love you all ###
