Zeigler Geologic Consulting LLC ZGC LLC provides a wide range of geologic services to rural communities, archeologists, conservation agencies and others. ZGC was founded in early 2009.

We specialize in providing a wide range of geologic services to a broad array of clients. Examples of some of our services include groundwater monitoring, geologic and aquifer mapping, geoarchaeological analyses, subsurface stratigraphic analyses, paleontological resource management and EIS/FERC RR drafting, among others. ZGC's staff are all proficient geoscientists with a wide range of experience

in different disciplines. We also carry a state-wide annual BLM permit which allows us to mobilize quickly for fossil resource management projects. ZGC is committed to New Mexico's farms, ranches and agricultural communities - we've created integrated hydrogeologic projects with multiple communities in northeastern New Mexico and are grateful for the opportunity to assist with groundwater resource management questions.

We're just one week away from having summer well monitoring all wrapped up. As always, the biggest thanks we can offer to all our producer partners. We can't get this scale of work done without y'all (especially by having wells shut off before we get there!). We

ZGC's senior staff will be getting Ute Creek SWCD's groundwater monitoring project back up and running this week, as well as scampering around the southern half of our original "home", Union County! Then it's all hands on deck for the rest of Union and Las Animas County.

As we gear up to work with our SW Quay SWCD, Clovis, and Lingo producers next week, as well as get prepped for the Sentinel Landscapes Summit in Clovis, this partial quote from my dear friend and colleague Ramon Lucero sits close to the front of my mind:

"We manage water emotionally and not always with data."

There was more to the conversation than this, but this short sentence carries a lot of punch.

We are crankin'! Chris's team is almost done with Colfax County and is moving over to Mesa SWCD this coming week while Doc Ziggy's team keeps our paleo jobs on the straight and narrow. Last week was Deming, Las Cruces, and Vado and next week is Farmington before they rejoin the groundwater monitoring push.

We would also be remiss if we did not congratulate SW Quay, Mesa, and Ute Creek SWCDs for receiving Soil & Water Conservation Commission Water Quality Grants, which support ZGC's efforts in these SWCDs. Kudos!!

Mora-Wagon Mound SWCD! Y'all are up next! We'll be running two teams all of next week, so watch for us in a pasture near you (complete with Sophie to mind your livestock's business for them).

And it is already that time again - summer well monitoring season is here!! We will be in western Mora to support our communities impacted by the HPCC Fire, then east into the Mora-Wagon Mound SWCD. Watch for the nerd herd to go zipping by soon!

Before we tackle the summer groundwater monitoring season, we're off to northwestern Colorado for a little paleontology survey. It will be a nice change of scenery (and cooler temperatures). Especially as we're off to Phoenix the week after for a job site reconnaissance trip. We might melt out there...

We've been quiet partly because we're as busy as ever, but also because ZGC is onboarding three new staff environmental scientists and we're super excited to share our crazy with them. And share their crazy with you! But we will be ramping up summer well monitoring season the first week of July, as usual. If you're in western Mora County, give us a shout - we are continuing to monitor wells in and around the HPCC burn scar.

To all our northeastern folks - the ISC is beginning the next round of updating the Regional Water Plans and this is the time to make your thoughts and ideas heard. I know April and May is a very busy time, but please see if you can participate whether it's in person or through their online process!!

And that's a wrap. Winter groundwater monitoring is finally finished. Whew. Been a long time since muddy roads were this much of a problem, but sure glad for the moisture!

03/02/2024

Just in case you're a little worried because you haven't seen us zip by to check your well, we're still slugging away at it! We will be working through southern Union County next week and then hope to be mopping up our last Colfax, Mora, and Union wells after that. Fingers crossed roads stay dry long enough for us to get 'er done!

16/01/2024

This winter has been a struggle so far to keep our well monitoring on track. We've lost almost three weeks of work, but it's for the best reason ever: too much snow for us to get around (and the resulting roads too muddy to drive). Could do without the single digit temps this last week ... We'll be giving it another go in Union County next week, but we might just continue to Murphy the heck out of the weather.

In just a week, ZGC will have been in business for 15 years! The unexpected boxes of goodies that arrived over the holidays from some of our clients reminds me of how grateful we are for the folks we partner with, be it in paleo mitigation or in groundwater. Our thanks for the amazing opportunities we've had as we wrap up 2023!

01/12/2023

It's already that time again! Winter water level monitoring is here again. Next week is our western Mora County communities and Mora-Wagon Mound SWCD folks. Holler if you are in either of these project areas and are interested in joining one of these groundwater monitoring projects!

The ZGC team is deeply saddened by the loss of our "den mother" and mentor, Tracy Seidman, of Wagon Mound Ranch. Her bunkhouse was our home away from home for many years and she was one of our greatest supporters in the work we do on the High Plains. The list of everything she did in her life is far too long to post, but she served on the Interstate Stream Commission, NM Water Dialogue, and Valles Caldera Trust, as well as being a powerful part of our northeastern New Mexico agricultural community.

Our hearts are broken as we raise a beer in salute to her.

El Llano Estacado RC&D Council Annual Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Lea Hall Conference Room at ENMU in Portales at 10:00am.

We will have elections of officers and approve the budget for 2023-2024. This is an important meeting, and we do need a quorum to take these important votes.

We will have a Blackwater Draw Museum tour directly after the business meeting and then a dig site tour after lunch at a local restaurant provided by El Llano Estacado RC&D. The museum is now on the ENMU campus so it is at a relatively new location. We hope you join us for this event.

PLEASE RSVP before June 5th if you haven't already as we do need a lunch count: [email protected].

25/05/2023

Save the date!! Northeastern SWCD, Union County, and ZGC will be hosting a workshop in Clayton on Saturday, June 24 that will be focused on learning more about our long-running groundwater project! We will discuss aquifers and groundwater, have some hands-on activities, and a trip out to measure a nearby well. Lunch provided!! Watch for the official flier soon!
