Tirta Gangga is one of my favourite sites to visit in Bali. The shade from the large trees, the green areas of the gardens, and the chance to dip your toes into the cool mountain water that flows into the pools create a feeling of rejuvenation. It started as a holiday place, away from the urban areas, for the royal family. Much damage occurred in 1963 due to a volcanic eruption and earthquake. This article, from 2019, talks about the restoration of Tirta Gangga and the people who supported the process.

One of my favourite days has arrived in Bali. Today is Galungan, the celebration of good over evil.
Galungan is celebrated every 210 days. I can't believe that another Balinese year has gone by. 😲
For the last month or so, the Balinese Hindus have been preparing for this auspicious day.
I look forward to the day that I can participate in this celebration and, of course, enjoy the spicy, traditional food. 🌴🌞

International BAT NIGHT 🌜🦇🌛

Travel has made me more tolerant of situations that, in the past, would have freaked me out.

One of those tolerances is being comfortable when bats come out in the evenings to feed on insects. They are swift agile mammals that are capable of eating, their body weight or more, in insects. What better reason to appreciate this mammal?

If that is not reason enough we could say goodbye to bananas, avocados, mangoes as well as another 300 species of fruit that are dependant on bats for pollination.🍌🥑

An 11th-century temple, located on the east coast of Bali, called Pura Goa Lawah ( Temple Bat Cave) is built at the cave entrance that is inhabited by nectar bats. This is one of Bali's most important temples.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FRIENDSHIP ~ Celebrating friendship!!

Though we live in different parts of the world, we have differences in language, opinions, and culture we also have things in common that connect us whether we are near or far from each other.

What’s hotter than Bali?

The heatwave that we are experiencing in western Canada! 😓

I am dreaming that I am in Bali rather than hiding out in the basement.

I hear people commenting that they love the heat. Myself, I have never been a fan of hot temperatures.

The heat in Bali is more enjoyable than this current heatwave, possibly because while in Bali it is vacation time; a time without commitments. 😉🌴

WHY IS BALI A MAGNET FOR SPIRITUAL HEALING?

There is something special about the magical island of Bali that is beyond the smiling faces of the locals, the spectacular nature and the beautiful culture.

Bali has an energy that draws people to the island time and time again.

As our bodies have energy centres, the earth also has energy centres. I realized, after reading various articles, that one possible reason is that Bali is an energy vortex. A vortex is formed by ley lines that intersect on this island. This makes Bali an area where the body and soul are cleansed and rejuvenated. These ley lines pass through six sacred purification temples on the island.

Some other high-energy areas around the world include the Bermuda Triangle, Mount Fuji, Maui and Sedona.

Bali is a place of transformation; it is no wonder that I feel refreshed and energized after spending time on this small and potent island.

For the International Day of Yoga, I found this awesome quote. "Yoga is the dance of every cell with the music of every breath that creates inner serenity and harmony." ~ author unknown

Yoga is a marvellous practice though I have only participated in random sessions throughout my lifetime.

One of the greatest sessions I participated in was during Marie Maccagno's Writing from the Heart: A Bali Retreat.

The yoga instructor entered the open-air studio laughing. I was looking at the other students, I could see that they were as confused as I was. The instructor continued to laugh as he started the yoga session. Of course, his laughter caused us to laugh with him. That is when we realized that this session was going to be different, this was a laughing yoga class.

I may have laughed, at myself, while attempting yoga poses but not before the class starts.

Have you attempted to practice yoga while laughing?🧘‍♀️😂

If you are looking for a reason to relax with an amazing luxurious bath, then International Bath Day is quite possibly it.

Numerous spas across Bali offer flower baths, in which warm water is infused with flower petals. It is an intoxicating experience.

In urban areas of Bali most households have a bathing room, few have the luxury of having a bathtub.

While travelling through rural areas you will often see people bathing, most often in the evening, in the irrigation ditches or the rivers.

As part of various Hindu ceremonies people participate in a bathing ritual, a holy water purification, to cleanse the spirit, mind and body. This tradition has been practiced for over one thousand years.

Today is National Moonshine Day. Moonshine has been and is still brewed in many countries around the world.

When I hear, the word "moonshine" it conjures up imagines of stills in the backwoods, brewing in the moonlight to hide from authorities and fast cars. OK...maybe I have seen too many movies!

It appears that many regions continue to make some form of homebrew. In Asia, these brews are usually made from rice or palm juice.

Bali, of course, is no different. The two local brews are called Arak and Tuak. As Bali has a high import tax on liquor it makes these spirits too expensive for most locals to purchase.

Tuak is the easiest to produce as it is fermented palm sap. It produces an alcohol content quickly. It must be drunk on the day it is made. Tuak is popular among men in rural areas.

Over the past several years distilleries have been producing Arak. There are still many local "moonshiners". Since the quality of Arak increases each time it is distilled it is more time-consuming to produce than Tuak.

These spirits are an integral part of daily Balinese life.

How long have you been waiting for the right time to travel?

Welcome to Discover Your Bali, an intimate tour for women that doesn’t require a companion or travel experience – only a taste for adventure and a desire to reconnect with yourself.

From the moment you land, I’ll be here to introduce you and your group to the beautiful Balinese landscape and culture, which I first encountered in 2006. I was so profoundly moved by the simple, peaceful energy of this place, and even more by the hospitality and warmth of the Balinese people, that I vowed to spend as much time as possible here and share this magical place with other women. Come join me for my next journey through Bali.
