NEW TULUM airport to start operations next year!

It is very much needed on that side of Mexico as the Cancun airport has been seeing crazy record-breaking number of passengers this year.

Tulum - On Monday, February 20th, photos of what the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in Tulum, Quintana Roo, will look like were revealed during the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

It was Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez, General in charge of sections 5 to 7 of the Mayan Train in Quintana Roo, who revealed the images of what the Tulum Airport will look like, as well as details about the remodelling and modernization of the Chetumal Airport.

In addition to the construction of the Mayan Train, elements of the Secretariat of National Defence (Sedena) are working on the airport complex, which will also have a military air base to strengthen security and surveillance of national airspace, as well as to reinforce security in the central and southern areas of Quintana Roo.

The following rendered images show what the construction of the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport will look like.

What will the new Tulum Airport look like?

According to Vallejo Suárez, this airport being built by the Mexican Army will be "a green airport" in its conception, construction and operation, under the global environmental protection initiative.

It will also have a great logistical capacity thanks to its central location and its connection to the Tren Maya, with a 10.5-kilometre commercial and service corridor.

WHERE WILL THE FELIPE CARRILLO PUERTO AIRPORT BE LOCATED?

The airport, which will be located in the municipality of Tulum and the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, will have an area of 1,500 hectares.

PASSENGER TERMINAL

It will have a capacity for a little more than five million passengers per year. In addition to the main infrastructure of the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, the following will be built:

• Air traffic control tower

• With 13 slots for commercial aircraft

• 28 positions for business aircraft and a hangar for 12 aircraft.

• Runway of 3,700 with ILS Cat. I

• Fuel terminal: for 6 million litres

• Airport service area: with drinking water and wastewater treatment plants.

• Fixed Base Operator (F.B.O): It will have the power to attend to the executive vision to boost aviation in the Riviera Maya, due to the fact that Cancun International Airport already restricts this type of operation.

The construction of this impressive megaproject in the centre of Quintana Roo will take around 17 months, so it will be completed by the end of 2023, to begin operations in 2024.

The Cancun airport has had record numbers of passengers this past year, so hopefully this helps some!

The first 14 automated migration filters are already in operation in Terminal 3. This in order to improve the experience, accelerate and give access in about 30 seconds to our visitors with electronic passports from Mexico 🇲🇽, United States 🇺🇸 and Canada 🇨🇦.
