This is exciting, I just took delivery on my new Wildtronics parabolic microphone! I have to finish proofing the edits on Birds of Texas, but I feel a recording expedition coming on. Been playing with it in the backyard and it’s VERY directional. I can’t wait to get somewhere quieter to really try it out. Piney Woods? Trans-Pecos? Panhandle? So many possibilities

I’m having my last meal in Ecuador. This trip was a last minute invite that was an amazing opportunity. In 10 days of birding we found 367 species. I personally had 267 lifers. Our guide Edwin Perez did an amazing job. If you are looking for a small group custom tour I would be happy to get you in touch with him. Kozibirding will be doing a tour with him probably in June or July this year.

Osprey are one of the three monotypic families of birds regularly found in Texas. A monotypic family is a family with only one species in it. What makes Osprey unique among raptors is that its outer toe is reversible, making it zygodactylous or two toes pointing forward and two pointing backwards. This is an adaption for carrying slippery fish.

The Black-necked Stilt is one of the most photogenic of Texas birds, its so hard to choose a photo for the Field Guide!
