We're a new, small scale tour operator providing guided multi-day group walks through Viti Levu’s interior, working in partnership with local communities. We will take visitors off the beaten track to experience Fiji's interior - its dramatic peaks, pristine forests, sparkling rivers, unique history and rich culture. We give tourists the opportunity to experience the n
atural environment in the interior of Fiji and engage in a genuine cultural experience. We do this by partnering with rural communities and, through a sustainable business, provide them with a source of revenue that will contribute to their own development objectives. At our core... we're about going walking and giving people an experience they will treasure forever.

Happy New Year!
On our final trek of 2024, Nubutautau celebrated early by welcoming our team and guests into the village with flower salusalu’s and baby powder 😝 A common celebration seen across all of Fiji.
Our team is back in the office today preparing for what looks to be a very busy year ahead with treks, projects and workshops. We’re looking forward to welcoming our guests back into the highlands in April.

Ratu Tevita Naivalubalavu is normally guiding guests in the highlands of Viti Levu but he looks right at home at Nukubati - Great Sea Reef where he recently stayed as part of a Duavata Collective learning exchange. A huge vinaka vakalevu to our fellow Duavata members for making it possible with support from NatureFiji-MareqetiViti and ITaukei Trust Fund Board - TTFB. "At Nukubati I saw how important protecting our resources is, to preserve them for future generations and for guest experiences".

Those of you that have hiked to the Savulelele Waterfall near Nabalesere village in Ra will likely have met Amini. Today he is on his way to Taveuni to visit other communities and community-based operators as part of a learning exchange supported by NatureFiji-MareqetiViti and ITaukei Trust Fund Board - TTFB. Over the last three days, Amini and another eleven community tourism managers and guides have visited fellow Duavata Collective members on Vanua Levu Nukubati - Great Sea Reef Muanivatu Trails KokoMana and friends at Cegu Valley Farm, Bia-i-Cake Women's Cooperative and Vusaratu community. Amini shared "Thank God for this opportunity to be on this learning experience. This trip has strengthened my knowledge and motivation to go back to my community and share on how agro-forestry and tourism are collaborations that we can use with our existing waterfall tour".

Clear skies for our final trek of the year. Vinaka vakalevu to everyone who joined us in the mountains this year. As the rainy season begins in Fiji, we take this time to prep for more trips next year. Our 2025 calendar is up and bookable through our website.
See you in April 👋🏽
A few weeks ago we were very excited to have Alana accompany us into the highlands to create some content for our social media platforms. Yes, she is the mastermind behind these new and cool reels you are seeing.
Alana returned to Fiji this year after leaving when she was 4 and this was her first time staying in a village. Read about her experience on our website. Vinaka vakalevu Alana!

The most stunning waterfall in Fiji (but we are also a little biased😜).
For the adventurous, it is possible to do some of our hikes independently and we have created a DIY page for visiting the Savulelele waterfall at Nabalesere village. Visit our website for info https://www.talanoa-treks-fiji.com/waterfall-and-cave-diy-options/

We could not be prouder of these phenomenal women entrepreneurs who we have had the privilege to work with as part of the yher Pacific Islands programme. When establishing Talanoa Treks ten years ago, our purpose was to connect interior communities to the adventure tourism space, to use tourism as a vehicle for community development. All of these women have similar stories to share about why they work in tourism - they are doing amazing things in their communities to revitalise traditional sailing, to provide employment opportunities for young dancers, to promote health and wellness, to support diverse communities to share Fiji's history with guests. A huge vinaka vakalevu to you all for allowing our team and our partners to be part of your journey. Happy Fiji Day! Tourism Fiji Intrepid Travel Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association KPMG

We love the power of adventure and responsible tourism. Fiji's history is one of voyaging and we're so proud of our friends at the Uto ni Yalo Trust for utilising the opportunities that tourism can provide to achieve their greater purpose in revitalising traditional sailing. Charter sails like this provide opportunities for their incredible crew to spend more time doing what they love and inspire the next generation to keep the knowledge alive. So next time you bring a group hiking reach out to them and Rosie Holidays to add on some post-hike ocean time. Happy Fiji Day! Tourism Fiji

Happy Fiji Day! In addition to being the highest point in the country, Tomaniivi is an important bird area and the headwaters of most of Viti Levu's major rivers - the Ba, Sigatoka and Rewa rivers all have their origins in the wider Tomaniivi area. She provides a home to many endemic plants and birds and getting to the summit always brings an incredible sense of achievement. Celebrating all of Fiji's wonders today and everyday! The incredible Savulelele waterfall is a short, but hilly, hike from the village of Nabalesere in Ra. This time of year, the water is bracing but always rewarding! One of Viti Levu's hidden gems, it is accessible from Suva or the Suncoast as a day trip or join one of our Intrepid itineraries and visit as part of an 8-day round Viti Levu adventure. Sometimes Tomaniivi is covered with clouds at the start of the hike. And sometimes they'll lift during those first few hours of sunshine so you can reflect on her in all her beauty from the bottom of the trail. Never the same hike twice. Always worth the effort. Tourism Fiji

We don't normally post photos of our own team but today is a special person's birthday and given that he is on his way down from the highlands and can't object :-) and that this has been shared already on social media, we decided we could get away with it. Happy birthday Jake Taoi! As a recent guest put it in their feedback, 'he is truly a custodian and guardian of Fiji's natural and ecological heritage'. Vinaka vakalevu Jake for all that you do! Have a wonderful birthday!

Last week we asked our Trip Leader Ben if he could stay back in our office for a week, to which he replied “Ben would much rather be in the highlands”.
It’s ok Ben, we won’t take it personally, we would much rather be in the highlands too 🥲🤣

Our Story - Exploring the heart of Fiji
Talanoa Treks is Fiji’s only dedicated hiking company. It’s the product of friendships created over nearly a decade exploring Fiji’s remote interior and getting to know people living there.
We run treks in partnership with rural communities and locally owned and managed lodges to create a mix of great walking and authentic culture. These communities are why Talanoa Treks was created, and we work together to ensure that the treks are great for you and great for them.
Our multi-day treks take hikers off the beaten track to experience the true heart of Fiji. We escape the beach and visit waterfalls, walk through forests, climb Fiji’s highest mountain, wade rivers, cross open grassland, and stay in remote villages.
We support the communities to provide trekking guides, host hikers and provide meals and accommodation. The land we walk on is their land, their vanua, to which they have an inalienable connection. We believe it’s only right for them to show guests where they live, farm, hunt and fish.
Treks can be enjoyed separately or combined into a stunning 5-day adventure. They are scheduled during our season (April to November) or tailored for groups on request.
