We join the world in mourning the loss of the legendary Sidney Poitier. The Bahamian-American actor starred in the 1958 movie, “Our Virgin Island” which was filmed in the British Virgin Islands. Our favorite scene from the movie is when Marcus, the character played by Poitier, is asking the steel pan players led by a son of our soil, the late Capt. Ira L. Smith, the founder of Smith’s Ferry Services to play the wedding march. In those days Ira was well known for playing pan when he wasn’t building boats. Our family was always so proud of the fact that he spent time with the likes of Sidney Poitier.
May they both continue to Rest in Peace as we continue the path they have cleared for us here on earth.
