DANCER TESTIMONY //

"This has been my first season with CIC. One of my favorite things about being a part of this community is that we strive for excellence in our connection both with our Heavenly Father and those around us. Serving as Public Relations Assistant for CIC this year has taught me so much about how this connection with others is one of the primary ways to bear witness of the gracious, loving God that we praise - through our art form and our actions. It is my hope that when others interact with this company, they will only see Christ and the amazing ways He is working in and through His body of believers. Another highlight of my time this season has been in rehearsal process with Andie. The genuine humility that encompasses her creativity has inspired me to press into the Father as my ultimate source of life and love. I am so thankful for all that the Lord is teaching and equipping me through this community that is honest, genuine, and life-giving." - Jenae Drum

Happy Mother’s Day!

//

God took the fragrance of a flower...
The majesty of a tree...
The gentleness of morning dew...
The calm of a quiet sea...
The beauty of the twilight hour...
The soul of a starry night...
The laughter of a rippling brook...
The grace of a bird in flight...
Then God fashioned from these things
A creation like no other,
And when his masterpiece was through
He called it simply – Mother.

Hometown: Columbia, MO
Favorite thing about BU: The real and honest people I've had the honor to meet and how much the professors are willing to be patient and walk with you on your crazy journeys.

Dreams after graduation: I'm looking into dancing and working in Cleveland, OH possibly with Inlet and with Lisa Renee depending on auditions, thinking about grad school, and hopefully collaborating with film artists or increasing my own film experience. And playing saxophone! I never want to stop playing saxophone. Someday, I want to save up enough money to buy a bari sax. That is my dream.

DANCER TESTIMONY //

"Throughout my time serving with CIC Dance Theatre, perhaps the most potent and transformative lesson the Lord has given me is to discover the THRILL of OBEDIENCE.

This concept is so counterintuitive to me. Our culture says - “break the rules! Live on the edge!” My rebellious heart craves freedom and the rush of spontaneous adventure. Don’t tell me what to do! And yet… through CIC, God has allowed me to experience a completely different type of freedom.

The freedom of surrender.

There is perhaps no greater rush, than the exhilarating leap of faith that is required to say “game on!” when God says “GO!”

With these sisters in Christ, I have time and time again experienced the wonder of God’s faithfulness when we have made the choice to put His mission and His calling first in our lives.” - Kathryn Lee

DANCER TESTIMONY //

"I still remember the excitement and anticipation of walking into the very first rehearsal of CIC Dance Theatre - knowing nothing of the adventures, trials, healing, and victories that were to come. From that point on, I’ve watched the miraculous unfolding of all that can take place when the Lord’s direction stands in the forefront – leading us to unexpected places and unimagined depths of fellowship. Teaching us to be recipients & vessels of His grace as we learn to give honest and venerable testimony to the Truth we’ve encountered. I’ve also watched Him call us to moments of stillness - to rest and seek his guidance for the next step, both as individuals and as a collective. For me personally, the Lord has used this work to lead and teach me to speak, pray, create, and move into places of discomfort – seeking to press out the fruition of true, authentic beauty by redemptively pressing into areas of discomfort and apprehension." - Andie Knudson

DANCER TESTIMONY //

"Working with CIC has shown me the power in dance and in the kingdom. This company does not simply operate as a group of artists but as a community of believers. That means that we create together, but we also live out prayer, accountability, and empowerment with each other. CIC has shown me that the most powerful things in life and art occur when Christ is in the center of our practice. I've seen people experience freedom from emotional bo***ge through giving their movement to the Lord and I've seen the Lord bring reconciliation to families after we stepped forward and danced prayer over them. The Lord moves. He is the strongest, most powerful creator and in CIC we are seeking to be apart of that process, to be apart of his process." - Lydia Mathis

DANCER TESTIMONY //

"One thing that has stood out to me in CIC is unpredictability. Nevertheless, two things remain constant: the focus on Christ and the expectation to bring our entire beings to the space for the purpose of creating works that are relatable, powerful, and human. I remember taking a few works to a day shelter to perform for and spend time with members of a homeless community. Regardless of the cultural differences, we had the ability to connect through the art form because of the intentional preservation of our humanity within performance. Conversations that followed the works could not have taken place otherwise. Although this venture seemed unpredictable in the beginning, the outcome bore the fingerprint of Christ through the connection of His creation." - Mariah Henry

DANCER TESTIMONY //

"It wasn’t until years after my first performances with CIC than I began to understand the fullness of the Lord’s handiwork in teaching me through those experiences. In this performance of “It is Well” I was asked to portray, in my movement, the spiritual, mental, and physical support from a friend that each believer needs. A year later, I was able to embody a similar role of intercessory prayer for a friend in another performance. In those moments, I thought I was learning what it meant to be the support system for fellow believers experiencing pain and trials. However, it wasn’t until I had experienced similar trials of my own that I was able to reflect on the impact of these performances. In those times where I thought I was supporting others, the Lord was reminding me of my own need to be supported and uplifted. He reminded me to put down my mask, fall broken at the feet of Jesus, and trust that he and those he has placed in my life would be my support. CIC has taught me the power of Christ-centered community and trusting in the One who is our Strong Tower and Everlasting Defender." - Anna Rhodes

DANCER TESTIMONY //

"My time with CIC during their Midwest Sojourn in 2016 was such a rich time of remembering what it’s like to press into the guidance, wisdom and soft yeses of the Lord when everything else at the time was calling me to quit and give up. At the start our travels, I developed a nauseating headache. In response to this, the entire company joined together in prayer, worship, and reflection. God was doing something - after our rehearsal times were over I would realize I had not been feeling sick at all... But very soon after, the headache returned. I realized that place of full body submission, abandonment and worship was my place of protection, and freedom and each movement of worship was my armor in that battlefield. Finally, after performing, my headache dissipated and left me for good. I learned in that time that the Lord works powerfully through our obedient hearts when we choose to move into what He is calling even when we have no strength to do it. God was leading me to continue dancing despite my pain. With these sisters in Christ and Jesus Himself by my side, I was able to experience this powerful place of protection and the power I have in Christ in the midst of spiritual warfare." - Sarah Smith
