In July, we spent four days backpacking through the Balkans mountains of Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro. Often called the Albanian Alps, these mountains provided as spectacular of views as you can see anywhere in the world without the crowds. Each night was spent in a different guesthouse along the route, most of which were old shepherds homes converted to guesthouses for trekkers. The photos in this post are some of our favorites from Day 1. The daily distances were moderate at about 10-13 miles per day, but elevations gains made each day quite strenuous, ranging from 3500-4500ft. The constant incredible views kept us smiling through the pain!
