The Goldmine at Rodalquilar in Almeria province
In 1883, gold was discovered at a mine near Rodalquilar. The goldrush brought hopeful miners from all over Europe and some equally hopeful mining companies from Spain, Germany, Britain and Holland. In the end, all the companies failed. Gold can still be found in small quantities and we show you where the mines are. The 'Goldrush' walk described on the visit-andalucia.com/gold-walk-rodalquilar/ website tells you more.
Introducing Agua Amarga in Almeria province
Agua Amarga is a delightful coastal white village. A few fish restaurants on the beach serving lobster caught in the idyllic bay. A wide, sandy beach, crystal clear, blue water and fishing boats hauled above the tideline, a real Shirley Valentine atmosphere.
Not to mention its history as part of the mining revolution in 19th century Spain.
What more could you ask?

Discovering the Cabo de Gata, Almeria Province
The Cabo de Gata is Born: With the force of 100,000 atomic bombs the earth erupted. A dark brown and grey pillar of smoke, ash and molten rock, over 200 metres wide shot into the air faster than the speed of sound to a height of over 20,000 metres. A double sonic boom would have been heard 300 kilometres away. Close to the expanding pillar, the sound was loud enough to split boulders. A solid wave of heat turned everything in its path to cinders and ash as it too travelled outwards at almost the speed of sound. The earth buckled and a series of waves rippled out from the centre as the ground absorbed the force of the explosion. As these waves met the sea only one kilometre away they caused tsunamis that reached a height of 20 metres that then sped across the Mediterranean Sea to crash onto the shores of North Africa only minutes later.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Andalucia
Take a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Andalucia.
Travel through 6000 years of time from the first megalithic dolmens at Antequera through to Renaissance architecture in Baeza and Ubeda, not forgetting the 700 year Muslim rule of al-Andalus that left us with magnificent palaces epitomised by the Alhambra at Granada and ornate mosques like the Mesquite at Cordoba.
Andalucia has seven World Heritage Sites, the furthest west is the most important wetland in Europe, the Donana, the furthest east is a shining city, Medina Azahara, built in 40 years, survived for 40 years and was then lost for 1000 years. A tale straight out of the Arabian Nights.
