Amazing night Cirque du Soleil– now playing at the Royal Albert Hall until 2 March
It delivers the usual blend of spectacular circus feats and puzzling narrative choices. The show follows Mauro, a clown imagining his own funeral. While the story seems a bit muddled, with the premise never fully explored, it provides a loose framework for the breathtaking performances that define Corteo.
Set in a transformed Royal Albert Hall, the show creates an intimate atmosphere by splitting the audience into two facing halves. The performances that follow are visually stunning—jaw-dropping aerial acts, stunning hoop tricks, and daredevil feats on trampolines and high bars.
Among the highlights, Stephanie Waltman’s suspended pole act is nothing short of extraordinary, demonstrating incredible strength and precision. Another standout moment is the Paradis act, where performers are flung between platforms with dizzying speed and trust. The whimsical Helium act, where performer Valentyna Paylevanyan floats across the arena suspended by balloons, is a memorable spectacle, even if it feels a little unsettling at times.
Despite its clear strengths in acrobatics, Corteo struggles with its thematic coherence - but ultimately, Corteo is a dazzling experience— if you’re there for the jaw-dropping circus acts, rather than a solid storyline, you’ll find plenty to admire in Corteo - it’s a must-see!
Corteo runs at the Royal Albert Hall until 2 March
