We are two Canadian from Montreal who lived in Dubai since the last 6 years and decided to take a year off and see the world. After 15 years together (high school sweat heart!) and already a lot of adventures, we thought it was the perfect time in our lives to just do it!

Getting out of Kibera

This morning, we went to visit the biggest slum of Africa called Kibera in Nairobi. We knew the announcement of the election was coming and did not know what to except but decided to go anyway. Everything was just fine for the first 2 hours until the atmosphere turned over and some demonstrations started. We were rushed in a house by our 3 guides in order to avoid conflict....it was just me and Vince, then they made many calls and made a PRESS sign to get us out. There was a lot of people, tension in the street and the army. We finally got out and are safe in our hotel room. Ouf! Flying tomorrow morning for Kigali. Nous sommes allés ce matin visiter la plus grosse slum d'Afrique, Kibera à Nairobi. Nous savions que l'annoncement du resultat des élections était proche et nous ne savions pas à quoi nous attendre, nous avons decidé d'y aller tout de même. Après 2 heures, il nous disent qu'ils doivent arrêter et nous on amener dans une petite maison. Ils on fait plusieurs appels et fait un signe PRESS et nous on dit: on doit y aller maintenant (il n'y avait que nous). Il y avait beaucoup de monde et de tension dans la rue et l'armée prête pour une manifestation. Nous sommes finalement sorti et sommes en sécurité à l'hotel,Ouf! Départ pour Kigali demain matin.
