More than half - or 57 percent - said that the first time they had a telehealth appointment to combat their sleep related problems was during pandemic.

SINGAPORE โ€” More than half of the Singaporeans surveyed in a global study said that the Covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on their ability to sleep well.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Three things about Eugene Chong guest speaker for webinars series:

โค๏ธ Since his tertiary education days, he has been passionate in helping people. With a want to pursue more knowledge and skills set, he decided to spend the years ahead to pursue learning about human behaviours and became a psychologist.

Eugene's one big wish in mental health is for people to be able to receive help despite their economic status and that stigmatisation will decrease through the years.

โค๏ธ One person he looks up to is Milton Erickson because at one point of Milton's life, he was wheelchair-bound but still continued his service to his patients and the continuation of coaching the next generation in what he knows.

โค๏ธ Something interesting about Eugene; besides helping people, Eugene loves to travel for new experiences and explore different places around the world.

Three things about Serene Goh guest speaker for webinars series:โ
โ
โค๏ธ She has had her struggles with poor mental health and feels called to contribute back to those who are struggling with their mental health. Because life can be better with the right mindset, tools, support, and environment.โ
โ
โค๏ธ Her aspirations for mental health are universal education, so children grow up knowing how to balance work with sufficient rest, and temper other peopleโ€™s judgments and expectations with a strong sense of personal timing and purpose. Itโ€™s also important for us to get in touch with our bodies and learn to sense things beyond the surface meaning of words and appearances.โ
โ
โค๏ธ Something interesting about Serene; she loves reading and learning about Catholic rituals and saints, as she finds a lot of richness in the church traditions and in the life stories of saints that fuel her creativity to solve problems and lead a fulfilling life.โ

๐Ÿ‘‰ Toxic behaviour at workplaces has long been a tricky issue - how do we manage our bosses or colleagues, how do we draw boundaries and cope with it?

๐Ÿ’™ "Lewisโ€™s book makes two important points about such toxic behaviour: It is not just inhumane, it is costly, and though it should prompt speedy intervention, it often does not.

It typically takes more than 19 months before a conflict goes to mediation, according to research Lewis carried out in the NHS. I doubt it differs much in other organisations.

In that time, people subjected to toxic monsters can suffer depression, migraines, fatigue and a slew of other disorders that affect their work."

Even though staff are working from home, indefensible behaviour never stops, says the Financial Times' Pilita Clark

๐Ÿ‘‰ This month at CARA Unmask, we are looking at the theme of workplace mental health.

"Close to one-third of Asia Pacificโ€™s remote workers admitted that the pandemic has increased burnout at work. Faced with ever-present deadlines, the stress and pressure employees face is worsened by a lack of transparent communication. For instance, 63% of employees do not feel comfortable revealing to coworkers that they took time off work because of mental health issues, continuing this lack of mental health awareness.

Owing to their collective grit, businesses managed to survive the pandemic, further proving that the wellbeing of human capital should always come first."

๐Ÿ’™ Your mental health is equally important in your home life, as well as your work life.

Achieving good mental health is constantly a work in progress, not a fixed endpoint. Jim Falteisek, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, 3M Asia, reminds employers about what we can do to tackle this silent killer.

CARA Unmask Co-Founder, Bernard, writes about experiencing founder burnout on e27, a community for start-ups.

"As a young founder, I harboured dreams that I could change the world, create a tiny ripple in this vast ocean. Like some, I chose the route of spending any free time I had on a side tech project while slaving away in a corporate day job. I was bootstrapping myself and it was incredibly exciting.
..

Without proper guidance and a stubborn will to cross the finish line at all cost, I was soon managing a zombie tech project on life support. Mentally, I was fatigued but refused to accept the idea of mental wellness. I would rather believe in the wind than accept I was suffering from burnout, though both were invisible and widely acknowledged."

Iโ€™m sharing my lived experiences so you donโ€™t have to experience founder burnout like I did

Like physical health, there are some differences in how our gender relates to mental health. We bring you another instalment of our webinar, , as we shine the light on how our identity, culture, and upbringing affects our mental health.

In this session, Bernard, co-founder of CARA Unmask, will be joined by Amruta Patki, professional counsellor and CARA Therapist, and Benjamin Louis, Program Support Executive, Resilience Collective.

We will have a candid conversation about the following topics:

How our gender identity leads us to express our mental health issues differently.

Does our upbringing impact our self-expression when it comes to mental health?

What can we observe about our partners and their mental wellness, and how we can react to it.
