When you hire a TA to plan and book your vacation, you have to be able to trust them! You have to know they have your best interest in mind.
And that trust can be built in a few ways:
1. You know the TA on a personal level
2. You've worked with them before (that's the best way, because the TA gets to know you better and better with each trip)
3. Follow the TA on socials (for a while), check out their stories and reviews of other travelers...
4. Join the TA's mailing list/newsletter to learn more about them and their services
5. See if any of your friends or family have worked with this TA and what they have to say about their services
6. Schedule a consultation with the TA via phone or Zoom. That's a great way to see if you're vibing.
So there you have it. 6 ways to get to know and start trusting your TA.

Tell me what you REALLY REALLY want, and I might just make it happen! It is so important, when working with a travel advisor, to be clear about your wants and needs! It's important to have an open communication with your advisor, and to be able to provide feedback, good or bad, so that your trip is as close to perfection as possible.
Your TA can't read your mind (well, at least I can't), and while the more we work together, the better I get to know what you like and dislike while traveling, things change... tastes change, expectations change... I need to hear from you what it is that you really expect to get out of your travel experience, and what your vision for the vacation is.
Then, and only then, I can deliver that amazing travel experience that you will remember for a lifetime!
If you're not communicating with me, I am just guessing what you might want... and that leads to disappointment and trips that didn't hit the mark... And my goal is to ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS hit the mark! I want you to have a successful travel experience.

Confused AF
First of all, my friends don't ask for a "reputable site" to book their own trip. My friends ask me to plan AND book their trip for them. Because they know I'm THE reputable resource they need, and they want to support my small business and not some random corporation.
I had a lot of thoughts when I got this message, first being "the audacity!" but I decided to take the high road to respond and try to educate. Here's what I said:
"I would hire a travel advisor to help you narrow down what it is that you actually want this trip to look like, and provide you with the value of a professionally planned vacation. I do not recommend online booking sites. Ever. 🙃"
Later, I also added that I don't use "online booking sites" when planning my clients' travels, so I don't know which one is "best" or "reputable."
I work with suppliers who provide value and who I know will work with me to take care of my clients. My clients' experience is very important to me, and I don't treat them like a number on the spreadsheet.
In the end, not everyone will be a good fit to work with a travel advisor. I get that. And it's perfectly fine. 👌 However, I find messages like this simply rude. If you want to book your own trip, book your own trip. But don't ask me for advice or my resources. I've been working for over 15 years to gain knowledge and expertise in the travel industry. And that knowledge and expertise come with a price and are reserved for my clients.
