Gary Wright was involved in a light plane crash in August of 2022. After his accident, and his experience of being flown by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter, he decided he wanted to give back and raise enough money for himself, the other patient that was flown from the crash site, and pay forward at least one more mission.

Gary and has raised a total of $15,000 for the Trust by running a raffle in the Marlborough region. This last Christmas his business, Roadtrips Marlborough LTD, ran their famous Christmas Light Evening Tours with Santa, his Elves and the Grinch with 100% of the money donated to the Trust. Many businesses in the region donated to the raffle and we are extremely grateful to Gary, the businesses that donated and members of our community that purchased tickets. Hi I’m Gary Wright and I’m trying to give back after I required the services from the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter.

I was a passenger in a light plane which crashed in the back and beyond of Murchison in August of 2022.

In my case when the helicopters arrived to the crash scene the crew were quick to assess, were professional and careful. Their helicopters were well resourced and the crew were well trained. This all costs a huge amount of money.

The Nelson Marlborough Recue Helicopter is a nonprofit service we need to support as a region. Although they get some funding from the Government they rely on donations and fundraising.

It’s a service I personally always knew was a good service ... a service that I never thought I’d need ... but the thing is you don’t know if you’ll need this service until the time that it saves your life.

This last Christmas my business, Roadtrips Marlborough, ran our Christmas lights evening tours with Santa his Elves and the Grinch and 100% of the money went to the recuse service. We were able to raise approximately $4,000 . Please help me boost that with this raffle!!

!! Shes Back !! on the road for Summer of 2022/3 !!!

Due to COVID, social distancing, and all those other fun things this old girl has been parked up for the last two summers.

This bus is made for the streets of London so it’s top speed of 46km/h which keeps it within the Blenheim and Renwick circle.

I don’t post on Facebook often but I’m so unbelievably lucky to be still alive so here it goes !!!

On Saturday 13th August 2022 I was in a private plane crash in the back and beyond of Murchison.

Huge thanks for the quick response of a few individuals at the scene who helped the pilot and myself out of the wreckage. They slowed down bleeding, rang emergency services, supported us and kept us warm until the teams on the Westpac helicopters from Greymouth and Nelson arrived.

The sound of thumping helicopter rotors coming through the valley knowing help was coming is a sound I won’t ever forget !!

We were checked out by the medics, wrapped up and uplifted off to Nelson Hospital.

I was completely freaked out in EVERY way possible and in shock. But the care I received, and the communication of what was happening from the Westpac crew and the Nelson Hospital is off the chain. Amazing lifesavers!!!!

Until you’re in a situation needing a service like this you don’t appreciate the work they do. Whether it’s a car accident, hunting, fishing, hiking skiing or like me a plane crash. New Zealand having a service like this saves lives but they rely on donations.
