After Magnetic Island we had another 2week window exploring the reef. Here is the full video. Snorkelling and spearing daily, we were spoilt with our buddy boat Shoot’n the Breeze. Trout & cray everyday! Odevie is now back in Mackay… Time to earn some $$, catchup with family and friends. Thanks Martin for the drone/video of Odevie.

After Fitzroy, Zoe’s falls and exploring the reef, we had a lovely time in Maggie, welcomed by dolphins again… We had a well overdue re provisioning session, yoga, walks and sundowners with Hi Time & Shoot’n the breeze. Time for Odevie to get out for another reef trip!

Last night with a partial lunar eclipse & a few cruiser friends we went for a night snorkel at Lizard. We saw 2 sharks, many clams, nudi, cowrie, crown of thorns, trout, starfish, worms & many urchins… It was a challenge to film with our dodgy lights! Thanks to Lynn, Tony and Dan for keeping an eye on us!

Sailing is not always rainbows and butterflies 😃
We stayed a bit longer at Fitzroy Island and did some walks, including the Secret Garden. Then it was time for an awesome sail to Cairns, averaging over 7kn under sails with a peak of 10.3! After some fuel and provisions (thanks Tony and Lynn!) we hoped to leave Cairns yesterday but fate had other plans, breaking a part on our anchor winch while attempting to leave. We are now waiting for a replacement part via express post. Another walk into specfast so we could dodgy up a temporary fix in case of emergency and also visited the Cairns Rusty’s market (what a great market!) and get extra goodies…

We had an amazing time in the Cay with C-Piercer team! We snorkelled the reef, had sundowner drinks with all the cruisers, then fished at night and did ok. A Slatey Bream & 2 Moses Perch 💗. 3 beautiful Lemon Sharks came to say hello. Today we started the day by fishing a bit and I got a nice 40cm coral trout while Tony got a couple fusiliers. Lemon shark was back so I climbed the mast for a good pic. We then up anchored and sailed over to Fitzroy with a bit of wind, Odevie was doing well between 6.5 to 7.3kt. Now guess what was the next adventure???? Unblocking toilet pipes… Tony was bashing pipes & worked very hard in the head while I took 2 pleasure swims to clean the seacock… now exhausted we are watching the blue moon. Cheers! And the pipe is still not sorted…

Not much wind means we motored slowly to our next stop, Russell Island. On the way a Whale came to say hello, we also saw another one and dolphins too. It was so still that Tony finished 2 more splices for our lifelines and I made crêpes. At Russell we launched Spirit, our dinghy & joined Tony and Lynn. We had a little swim, drinks and crepes with a beaut sunset. What Else to ask for? A bit of wind maybe 😉

We left Dunk Island this morning for Russel Island (no wind today!) with Tony and Lynn (aka C-Piercer). We did a couple of walks & managed to top up fuel, fresh food, drop off rubbish & even wash the sheets old-style (was about time 🤨). We also found some interesting fruit on the way including the ‘Vomit fruit’.

Last week Tony used his new spear gun for the first time and we were rewarded with 2 trout! Yumm! We hope to continue South tomorrow (the reef fin fish closure is nearly over :) so hopefully we get more fish to feed us!

Look at these cuties 💗 absolutely amazing

After Hinchinbrook we stopped at Goold to explore the island and did the walk to the creek, we then moved to Brook Island for a snorkel between tides. The fringing reef has well recovered! We heard the whales singing underwater the best we ever have which was pretty cool. After an attempt of motor sailing (not much wind), we are now currently at Dunk Island and just finished 2 walks 🙂
