So much fun! Pinakin & his family were a delight to show around DC. Amaya, so strong like her brother (photo evidence towards the end), helped me pedal around on the trailercycle and even though she has just started biking on her own she was able to pedal me a few times along our ride. We covered a LOT of ground in our 4 hr tour around the memorials and monuments. It was a great time for all! Willard Intercontinental Hotel Viator

Summer nights are the best for exploring DC and viewing the monuments! Not only is it cooler, but there is less traffic and fewer visitors at the popular sites. “I’m amazed at how safe downtown DC feels at 11pm on a Saturday night!” added Britt, my guest and mother of a fantastic crew from Alabama. Her husband Chuck had served in the Navy so it was fun getting a family photo with the Lone Sailor at the US Navy Memorial.

When we were heading down the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial, Katherine asked “Can we go down to the Reflecting Pool?” Of course we can - ESPECIALLY when I learned it’s where her husband proposed to her! Her awesome daughter Elizabeth helped with a reenactment. And her friend Paige and son Gus were cheering on as we continued to enjoy a beautiful evening riding among the memorials and monuments. Congrats to the League of American Bicyclists on another great National Bike Summit. We were graced by Erick Cedeño AKA Bicycle Nomad, who gave an inspiring talk! After that I helped lead a “Head Out on an Adventure” bike tour. We rode down the Penn Ave Bike Lanes, over the Frederick Douglass Bridge, up the Anacostia River Trail (through Anacostia National Park) and back into DC on some sweet new protected bike lanes. My favorite part was the stops on East Capitol St to see where Major Taylor raced and then the Mary McLeod Bethune statue where we found out Erick and another participant are both alumni of Bethune Cookman University. Thanks to all who came out on the ride! Brompton Bicycle League of American Bicyclists

The National Bike Summit hosted by the League of American Bicyclists is happening and I’m honored to be leading seven rides during the summit. This morning we had 100+ who were up early for the Congressional Bike Ride. Representative Earl Blumenauer who has probably been to every since 2000 gave another rousing speech.

Did you hear? DC won an Oscar yesterday! “Best Wind” in the Weather Oscars!! And my guests from Floridasere total champs and braved the wild wind. Piper the 10yr old even was like a kite (or could have been if I had only brought some string!). We even got to see some rugged cherry blossoms. AKA White House

Yes! Audie is a star. This awesome 8yr old was in the DC region for a BMX championship (and now he is headed to the Worlds competition next!). His father is just as awesome. Having served in the Army, Justin is now a firefighter in Northern California. Justin’s dad served in the Vietnam War and we found the name of a friend of his Dad (Audie’s grandpa) who died in 1969 and Audie got an etching. Special enough! But we also saw some early cherry blossoms! It was an honor to show this awesome father son team around DC. Visit Washington DC

Laura and her crew of friends came to DC for some VIP tours of several Smithsonian museums. I was fortunate to be their private guide to bike to many DC sights. We did however get delayed early on with a uniquely DC experience… the Presidential Turkey (who I gather have requested a pardon) made their red carpet appearance at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel and I don’t think I’ve seen such a paparazzi scene in a while!

Crystal family came all the way from Virginia - the furthest SW corner which is probably further than coming from Connecticut! One of these young ladies rode a tagalong, while another young lady had her first tandem ride with me and was an awesome cyclist! We had perfect weather and enjoyed a glorious afternoon pedaling around the sites! The Hay-AdamsWashington Area Concierge Association

Leah and Todd’s family from Minnesota had a glorious morning and an adventurous spirit! We got to visit several cool sights “Off the Mall.” Apparently Ms Annie wanted to see Albert Einstein’s memorial more than anything but I hadn’t heard that until we got there. We also made it to Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon 911 Memorial, Watergate and a lot more. We also got to see some of the classics like Lincoln Memorial and Thomas Jefferson Memorial.

It was a great privilege to take some of the board of on a 25 mile bike tour of several trails around DC, discuss critical connections and community. Returning guest Jeff W’s and his crew of business leaders from Minneapolis are always awesome to ride with. They like to ride further, faster and have a lot of fun along the way. I was fortunate enough to show the crew the Anacostia River Trail in 2019 and this time we ventured on the C&O Canal to Great Falls. Lunch at Old Angler's Inn made for a delicious lunch and a great break.

I love giving night tours - especially when things warm up. We had a gorgeous evening with Dave and Sarah’s crew the other night. Since they were from Illinois we also visited Grant’s memorial and then I learned they had coincidentally been in Galena the week before. We also saw a cool art exhibit on the National Mall “The Council of Animals - What to do about the humans.” So much remarkable sights!

I got to guide a remarkable crew of friends on the Great Allegheny Passage (“The GAP”) last month. While most of my tours are 3 to 5 hour tours of, and around Washington DC, I do relish the opportunity to share epic experiences over several days. This custom 5-day tour included a half day biking around Pittsburgh, a visit to Bicycle Heaven, four full days riding one of the most excellent rail trails in the country and enjoying many scenic and significant sites along the way. A few of these included Fallingwater, Flight 93 National Memorial, Rachel Sager Mosaics, and many wonderful communities along the way. The great people of the Great Allegheny Passage have created a remarkable resource for the neighboring communities, a fantastic source of economic development, and an amazing adventure for us all to enjoy. Let me know if you are interested in your own private tour of the GAP C&O Canal or both.

Had a wonderful time showing Audrey Reese and her family around some new parts of DC they hadn’t been to before (as well as plenty of the classics too). It was high praise at the end from Nick who stated as a life-long Washingtonian he learned and saw a lot of new things. 10 year old Gavin was a bit more down to earth. “I learned a couple of things too.” Both kids kept noticing the ice cream trucks so T the end I had Gavin eat an entire truck (photo art!).

Stunning evening with Jessie and her wonderful daughters. After we rolled through GW, we check out the Arts of Peace and a lovely moon. But the cherry blossoms at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial were incredible. Quite the way to see it on the 55th anniversary of his assassination.

First of the cherry blossoms! And it’s mid-February! When Sean emailed me last fall to book a ride in mid-February, I said “Great, but it is winter so it could be bitterly cold and / or snowing, but I can also be nice and mild.”Thankfully we had a beautiful and mild day and I got to show this extended Irish family a lot of DC’s major sights on their day trip from NYC via Amtrak. Got a staff retreat or other team building event you need to design? A customized team bike tour is a great way to get everyone out, active, and having fun while learning a lot. This week I got to design a team-building tour with great folks working for better energy and combatting climate change. I was honored to show them lots of new stuff in DC around how the city and federal gov are preparing for rising sea levels and tidal flooding in the Nation’s Capital while also showing the historic waterways that helped shape DC early on. Thanks Shannon and your colleagues at Center for American Progress for the honor of sharing and showing you all around!

This wonderful crew (MA, Baltimore & Annapolis Naval Academy) wanted a bit more and more we did! Starting from Bladensburg, we rode the beautiful Anacostia River Trail to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and to the new Frederick Douglass Bridge before a whirlwind tour of several memorials and Georgetown University. Then the ride back so Paul & Dianna could make their flight back to Boston! It was 26 miles in total and loads of fun!
