What a grand adventure with an amazing crew! This time last week I had the great pleasure of guiding 10 Virginians on the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP). Team “Go Far With Friends” were a blast to show around PA & MD. After our shuttle to Pittsburgh we enjoyed exploring several great sites around the city including visiting Bicycle Heaven and riding the Duquesne Incline. Then over four days we rode the amazing 150 mile trail and explored many fascinating sites along the way. From Rivers of Steel tour of the Carrie Blast Furnace, to a private tour of Sager Mosaics The Ruins Project mosaics, to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, to the Flight 93 National Memorial. The GAP trail was of course the main event and it was spectacular as always and I shared a lot of the history and other great spots along the trail I’ve come to love. Fallingwater

A fantastic and fun evening with Michelle and Armando’s family. Their 10 yr old, Lucas, rode a tandem with me and made it feel like I was riding an e-bike at times. 12 yr old Andres was super inquisitive, and like each of his family, very engaged. With the sun setting earlier it is easier to do night tours and get back before it gets too late. Washington Area Concierge Association

So much fun! Pinakin & his family were a delight to show around DC. Amaya, so strong like her brother (photo evidence towards the end), helped me pedal around on the trailercycle and even though she has just started biking on her own she was able to pedal me a few times along our ride. We covered a LOT of ground in our 4 hr tour around the memorials and monuments. It was a great time for all! Willard Intercontinental Hotel Viator

Summer nights are the best for exploring DC and viewing the monuments! Not only is it cooler, but there is less traffic and fewer visitors at the popular sites. “I’m amazed at how safe downtown DC feels at 11pm on a Saturday night!” added Britt, my guest and mother of a fantastic crew from Alabama. Her husband Chuck had served in the Navy so it was fun getting a family photo with the Lone Sailor at the US Navy Memorial.

When we were heading down the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial, Katherine asked “Can we go down to the Reflecting Pool?” Of course we can - ESPECIALLY when I learned it’s where her husband proposed to her! Her awesome daughter Elizabeth helped with a reenactment. And her friend Paige and son Gus were cheering on as we continued to enjoy a beautiful evening riding among the memorials and monuments. Congrats to the League of American Bicyclists on another great National Bike Summit. We were graced by Erick Cedeño AKA Bicycle Nomad, who gave an inspiring talk! After that I helped lead a “Head Out on an Adventure” bike tour. We rode down the Penn Ave Bike Lanes, over the Frederick Douglass Bridge, up the Anacostia River Trail (through Anacostia National Park) and back into DC on some sweet new protected bike lanes. My favorite part was the stops on East Capitol St to see where Major Taylor raced and then the Mary McLeod Bethune statue where we found out Erick and another participant are both alumni of Bethune Cookman University. Thanks to all who came out on the ride! Brompton Bicycle League of American Bicyclists

The National Bike Summit hosted by the League of American Bicyclists is happening and I’m honored to be leading seven rides during the summit. This morning we had 100+ who were up early for the Congressional Bike Ride. Representative Earl Blumenauer who has probably been to every since 2000 gave another rousing speech.

Did you hear? DC won an Oscar yesterday! “Best Wind” in the Weather Oscars!! And my guests from Floridasere total champs and braved the wild wind. Piper the 10yr old even was like a kite (or could have been if I had only brought some string!). We even got to see some rugged cherry blossoms. AKA White House

Yes! Audie is a star. This awesome 8yr old was in the DC region for a BMX championship (and now he is headed to the Worlds competition next!). His father is just as awesome. Having served in the Army, Justin is now a firefighter in Northern California. Justin’s dad served in the Vietnam War and we found the name of a friend of his Dad (Audie’s grandpa) who died in 1969 and Audie got an etching. Special enough! But we also saw some early cherry blossoms! It was an honor to show this awesome father son team around DC. Visit Washington DC
