We visited a special studio to experience Wadaiko! 🥁🥁🥁
📍Wadaiko Hiryu https://wadaiko-hiryu.jp
Wadaiko is Japanese traditional music instrument. In this studio, a professional Wafaiko performer will be our instructor and teach us how to play the Wadaiko.
The big sound of the drum vibrates my heartbeat and I found body energized by the music.
When was the last time you shout out loud?
At the end of the performance we shout out from the bottom of our stomachs and it felt sooo refreshing!
It was full of fun. Oh, my arms are killing me though..,

✨ Fulfill Your Mind by Hand-Copying Sutras in Kyoto’s Tranquil Temple ✨
Looking for a meditative experience while you are visiting Kyoto?
Today I will take you to my favorite Shakyo place!
🖌What is SHAKYO ?📖
Shakyo is a practice to hand-copy sutras using brush pen on paper.
The origins date back to the 7th century, when Buddhist monks were publishing handwritten sutra books as they did not have letterpress printing technology at that time.
Later it developed as an important ascetic practice.
Nowadays Shakyo is casually practiced by many people to attain mental well-being.
Tracing sutras requires concentration. While your mind focuses on hand-copying the letters, it takes you to a moment of silence and tranquility.
📍Daikakuji temple
So many temples provide opportunities for Shakyo experience with different styles.
One of my best places to recommend is Daikakuji temple.
Located a 10 minutes bus ride from the touristic area of Arashiyama, Kyoto, Daikakuji temple is a great escape from the crowd.
Even though we take off our shoes and walk onto a traditional tatami-mattress, the temple provides a chair and a table to make it easy to practice while many other temples provide floor-sitting style for Shakyo.
You can choose to use a brush-style pen which contains ink in the shaft of the main body to automatically come off from the tip, instead of the traditional ink and brush, so you don't have to worry about getting your hands dirty by applying too much ink to the tip of the brush.
There are six varieties of Shakyo paper, from long ones taking more than one hour to very short ones taking less than fifteen minutes with prices under 2,000 yen.
✨Wish and a Small Ritual✨
My favorite part is that the paper has a small section at the end to write down your wish. This time I wrote Ka-Nai-An-Zen which is a Japanese term to wish for a family's well-being and health. The Shakyo experience ends with a small ritual where I burn an incense and apply it onto
It was quite a surprise for everyone in Japan. The new movie of Hayao Miyazaki was released without any previous announcement or promotion.
We had no idea what we should expect to see. Turned out it was the greatest surprise gift from the one and only anime studio we miss.💕

📍109 cinemas Osaka-Expocity
📍IMAX theater
Soon after the movie started I could not take my eyes off of the outstanding graphics.
Especially at the beginning, the scene where Natsuko slowly gets off the rickshaw was the most beautiful human movement I have ever seen.
The story grabbed my heart and constantly reminded me of many former Ghibli movies I have been watching since I was little.
I sometimes saw my son in the boy, and my child self at other times, but also it felt like the boy was the childhood of the director. 🍉🌻
But was it only me or did anyone feel the same way?
The story felt like a long farewell from the director to childhood in us, or a new generation of anime creators. I left the movie theater with a gratefulness of another encounter of a great movie and a little bit of sadness to realize it might be the last time to watch Ghibli’s new movie.
I hope it was just my wrong guess and look forward to many more great films in the next decade.✨

I hosted a virtual tour to visit bamboo forest in Arashiyama yesterday. It was a perfect day to see cherry blossoms in full bloom along Katsura river. Thank you so much for those who joined the tour. Let's do this again in summer and autumn, and keep enjoying the changing landscape of Arashiyama in all seasons.
