❄️Winter is here, but that doesn't mean your garden has to suffer! At African Landscape Design, we're passionate about creating sustainable gardens that can withstand even the heaviest of rainfalls. Here are our top tips for keeping your garden healthy and beautiful during Cape Town's rainy season 🌧️
1️⃣ Go native: Indigenous plants like fynbos and proteas are adapted to thrive in Cape Town's winter conditions. They can withstand heavy rainfall and fluctuating temperatures, making them the perfect choice for your winter garden.
2️⃣ Drain away: Improving drainage can help prevent issues like root rot, which can occur in waterlogged soil. Adding organic matter like compost or creating raised beds can promote proper drainage and keep your plants healthy.
3️⃣ Stay vigilant: Wet weather can attract pests and fungal diseases. Regularly check your plants and treat any signs of infection promptly with eco-friendly methods to keep your garden thriving.
4️⃣ Trim and support: Pruning plants to improve airflow and supporting tall or heavy plants can help prevent damage from strong winds and heavy rainfall.
5️⃣ Collect rainwater: Harvesting rainwater in barrels or tanks can keep your garden flourishing during drier spells while reducing your reliance on municipal water supplies.
6️⃣ Water wisely: During heavy rainfall, it's important to avoid over-watering. Adjust your watering schedule accordingly to keep your plants healthy.
7️⃣ Protect your plants: Cover delicate or potted plants and move them to sheltered areas to safeguard them from excess rainfall and wind damage.
Take charge of your garden and make the most of Cape Town's rainy season.

African Landscape Design is working alongside the owners of this magnificent Karoo farm, installing large trees from Prime Trees and compost from Darling Organics.
We installed retaining gabions to build new planters at the entrance way.
Looking forward to installing iceberg roses to enhance the beautiful homestead. Using Mayfords Biomosome grassveld seed we plan to reintroduce naturally occuring grasses into the once overgrazed landscape.

Last week, we completed a makeover of a front garden nestled under a grand syringa tree in Devil's Peak. To make the most of this deeply shaded haven, we repurposed existing clivia and philodendron plants and incorporated new shade-loving additions 💚🌿
We're grateful for the quality compost supplied by Master Organics and plants sourced from Weltevrede Nursery t/a Nonke Plants and Shadowlands Wholesale Nursery

Courtyard Revamp at The Cosmopolitan in Sea Point: A Thriving Atrium Garden🌿🌱
A year ago, we replaced the original garden at The Cosmopolitan in Sea Point with a new atrium garden after it had unfortunately died out due to incorrect plant selection. Despite low light conditions, the plants in the new garden are thriving beautifully, thanks to constant feeding and watering.💧
