The area is still not touched much by tourism. Wonderfully, it is one of the few remaining unspoiled areas of Costa Rica. The cross roads of San Francisco Coyote offer two small, but nicely stocked stores and near by a fresh seafood stand. Sometimes in the morning, you can visit the local fishermen at Pto Coyote and purchase freshly caught fish. Visit nearby Playa Caletas, a protected 10 KM long wilderness beach, and important turtle nesting area. With the Pretoma turtle hatchery camp midway on the beach. Visit and hike the Karen Morgensen Reserve, a hidden midlevel jungle forest (45 min by car) with old growth forest, pristine waterfall and crystal clear natural swimming pools.
