UPWARDS AND OUTWARDS

I belong to an international house-sitting agency. It costs $50/year. Folks who travel advertise on the agency website for caretakers to house or pet-sit or both. As an owner, it's a great way to feel secure while you're traveling, that your house is safe and your pet is well taken care of. As a sitter, you nominate the countries where you want to housesit, and you receive notifications from the agency every time a housesit becomes available in your country of choice. It's a great (and cheap!) way to see the world and experience various cultures.

I use the agency to gauge movement in the travel industry as well. Over the last two years, I've received only a handful of housesit offers mostly towards the end of last year - obviously a reflection of COVID lockdown and/or a fear to travel. However, during the last two months, I've been receiving 3-5 offers per day. The world is starting up again, and it's time to join the movement.

If either Alaska or Africa are on your Bucket List, there has never been a better time to book than now - before the safari crowd gets wise. Revel in the open space, the natural beauty and the incredible wildlife you'll experience at opposite ends of the world.

MARTIAL EAGLE TAKING FLIGHT

The martial eagle is the largest eagle in Africa with a wingspan up to 8-1/2 feet. They prefer open savannas and woodlands which is why this one could be spotted in the Okavango Delta, Botswana.

DIRECTING TRAFFIC

One of the most unusual and exciting crossings I've seen on the Great Migration Photo Safari was led by a small group of elephants surrounding a baby elephant to protect it from crocodiles. A single elephant remained behind, seemingly directing wildebeest traffic with its trunk swinging to-and-fro, slapping at the water to set the pace.
