Otavalo is best known for hosting South America’s largest indigenous market every Saturday in Plaza de Ponchos. Here you will find hundreds of merchants selling these beautiful handmade Alpaca wool blankets amongst many other beautiful hand crafted items. Our blankets were handmade by a small family business we met in our travels in Ecuador. Everyone in the family is involved, and the practice has
been passed on for generations. They are very passionate about their work, and this is evident in the detail and soft finish of each blanket. Alpaca wool is highly sought after because it is the only hypoallergenic wool option, and is much lighter and softer than other types of natural wool. You will feel it remains slightly cool to the touch, and doesn’t itch or irritate the skin like other wools can. Although dry cleaning or hand washing is suggested, it is durable enough to wash in a washing machine so long as it is air dried. We hope you enjoy your blanket as much as we enjoyed bringing them to you!
