Szent Miklós történelmi személy volt, aki Kr. u. 245-ben a kis-ázsiai Patrarában egy tehetős család gyermekeként látta meg a napvilágot. Korán árvaságra jutott, ezért nagybátyjához költözött. Iskolái befejeztével a papi hivatást választotta, életét a gyermekek tanításának szentelte. A mai Törökország területén lévő Myra városában püspökké választották, 52 évig tartó püspöksége alatt vagyonát a szegények megsegítésére fordította.
A mai napig ismert vele kapcsolatban a három leányról szóló történet, akik hozomány hiányában nem tudtak férjhez menni, ezért a jóságos Miklós titokban, az éj leple alatt pénzt dobott be számukra az ablakon.
Miklós 350. december 6-án halt meg Myrában, ahol évszázadokon keresztül őrizték testét, majd az iszlám hódítás idején átmenekítették a dél-olaszországi Bari városába, ahol ereklyéje a mai napig megtalálható.
December hatodika Szent Miklós liturgikus emléknapja, ő az igaz hit védelmezője és a szegények gyámolítója, évszázadokon keresztül az egyik legnépszerűbb szent volt. Az ajándékozó szeretet, továbbá a hajósok, halászok, kereskedők, zarándokok és a férjhez menő lányok védőszentje.

—the Museum of Transport has remnants of the original Elizabeth bridge that was blown up in WW II. Sad that cities are still being blown up today. 😢

The original Elizabeth bridge in Budapest was opened 10th October 1903. The original Erzsébet Bridge, along with many other bridges all over the country, was blown up at the end of World War II by retreating Wehrmacht sappers. This is the only bridge in Budapest which could not be rebuilt in its original form. Pictures and some salvaged elements from the old bridge can be seen on the grass in front of the Museum of Transport in City Park.

Which of these cities have you visited, stayed in, or lived in? For me: visited Szeged, Pécs, (and surrounding area), stayed in Budapest, Dunakeszi, (and Mohács and Dobogókő)and lived in Kecskemét . Also visited Balaton towns Balatonlelle, Siófok, Badacsony, Balatonfüred, Eger, Etyek, Pásztó, Hollókő, Buják, Mezotur, Félegyháza. (Sorry my phone makes it difficult to properly accent the vowels in some places).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Budapest was again significantly ahead of second place....
