Italian Festival - Italian Week Italian Week was created as Australia's Official Italian Festival from 2007 to 2017 Italian Week, established in 2007 by Cav.

Alessandro Sorbello, has evolved into a highly anticipated cultural extravaganza celebrated annually in Queensland, Australia. This vibrant festival serves as a testament to Italy's exuberance, showcasing its rich culture and way of life across various domains, including art, fashion, gastronomy, and manufacturing. With a strong focus on cross-cultural integration, Italian Week delivers high-quali

ty events and entertainment that resonates with the community. The festival was conceived in response to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' request for a reconfiguration and redefinition of Italian festivals. Their vision was to create a week-long cultural celebration in Queensland that would dispel outdated stereotypes and foster cultural and social cohesion. As an Italian government initiative, Italian Week emphasises collaboration with key partners from the government, institutional, and private sectors. Over the years, they have forged partnerships with organisations such as the Queensland Government, Multicultural Affairs, Brisbane City Council, Brisbane Marketing, and Ipswich City Council. Italian Week's success can be attributed to its unwavering commitment to emotional engagement. Year after year, the festival creates an atmosphere that generates loyalty and transforms attendees into passionate ambassadors. By bringing the best of Italy to Queensland in a controlled environment, Italian Week meets the utilitarian and hedonistic needs of festival participants. It is a time when visitors are immersed in a world of Italian delights, forging friendships, making memories, and feeling a deep connection to the Italian culture and community. Participants of Italian Week are captivated by the joyful, delightful, and exciting experiences the festival offers. They revel in the change of scenery, savouring authentic Italian cuisine, indulging in Italian beverages, immersing themselves in Italian music, movies, and performances. The festival acts as a unifying force, bringing together Italians, Australians with Italian heritage, and non-Italians alike, fostering a sense of belonging and community. Attendees are motivated not only by the pleasure derived from the festivities but also by the desire to conform and be part of the vibrant Italian community in Australia, regardless of their actual heritage. Cultural identity plays a pivotal role in Italian Week's significance. It encompasses an individual's sense of self derived from their membership in groups that transmit and inculcate knowledge, beliefs, values, traditions, and ways of life. Italian Week provides a platform for individuals to celebrate their cultural identity, reinforcing their connection to Italy and their heritage. Participants, whether of Italian origin or not, find themselves drawn to the festival, embracing the cosmopolitan nature of the diaspora community. The festival serves as a bridge between two cultures, Australia and Italy, by creating a space where both can come together harmoniously. Attendees temporarily forget about the physical distance separating them from their "mother country" and fully immerse themselves in the best flavours, traditions, and experiences that Italy has to offer. Italian Week's ability to maintain a sense of cultural authenticity while simultaneously challenging stereotypes is one of the secrets behind its enduring success. Ultimately, Italian Week is not just a mere re-enactment of Italian culture but a reassurance that cultural heritage can thrive and be recognised through its cultural expressions. The festival embraces cultural meaning, experiential connections, community, identity, integration, and long-lasting emotional engagement. It showcases the depth, style, and diversity of Italian culture, transcending superficial stereotypes and leaving attendees with a profound appreciation for Italy's rich heritage.

'From Italian Week to Italian W**d..'

Former Founder and Producer of Brisbane's Italian Week, Alessandro Sorbello went from promoting Italian culture and cuisine to promoting Italian W**D and CBD medical cannabis products.

Mr Sorbello founded Italian Week in Brisbane in 2007 at the request of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and built the event over the years. The events culminated in the two festivals in New Farm Park in 2015 and 2016 which saw over 65,000 people attend in its final year. Now he is working with Italian cultivators in the Mediterranean to grow cannabis for the Australian market.

In early 2017, Sorbello co-founded Medicinal Organic Cannabis Australia (MOCA) a fully licensed medical cannabis company and over the past 3.5 years, the company has grown its science based product range to over 21 organic products approved from the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

"The cornerstone philosophy of MOCA is ‘People, Planet, Profit’ and one of MOCA’s key metrics for success is our ability to make cannabis medication affordable. We believe that plant-based medicine should be available to everyone" said Sorbello. That is exactly why we are now working with cultivators in southern Italy who have a long history with cannabis and h**p cultivation. The cost of cultivation in Italy is significantly less than in Australia and this method enables MOCA to bring the prices right down. In fact, the company has developed a CBD infusion made from whole plant that will greatly reduce prices in Australia.

Cannabis has over 100 active compounds or cannabinoids, the most well known is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, this is the cannabinoid that creates the 'high' or 'stoned' psychoactive effect. The other compounds all have medicinal value, and one that is becoming increasingly popular around the world is called Cannabidiol or CBD.

These phytocannabinoids act on your endocannabinoid system, which works to keep your body in homeostasis, or balance.

Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are two of the more well-researched and popular phytocannabinoids. People take CBD and THC in a variety of ways, and they can be consumed separately or together.

However, some research suggests that taking them together — along with smaller organic compounds in the cannabis plant, known as terpenes or terpenoids — is more effective than taking CBD or THC alone.

This is due to an interaction between phytocannabinoids and terpenes called “the entourage effect.” This is the theory that all the compounds in cannabis work together, and when taken together, they produce a better effect than when taken alone.

Sorbello's team at MOCA have found a great combination of these two compounds in Italy. Low levels of THC so no psychoactive effects and high CBD for creating the perfect mix for the Australian market seeking treatment for pain and anxiety.

Currently, MOCA is raising money from our patients, friends and general public to fund expanding our product range and importing affordable organic cannabis medicine for the Australian market.

Our Equity Crowd share Campaign is now live until the 21st of October or until fully subscribed. If you want to invest in MOCA check out our page at Medicinal Organic Cannabis Australia (MOCA) the link is in the comments.
