You've probably noticed it's increasingly difficult to rent a vacation home in South Lake Tahoe. The reason is Measure T, a ban on short term vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe's residential neighborhoods. Although the community was divided, the ban passed by 58 votes in 2018 with 50.42% of voters approving the measure. Things happened quickly after that. Short term rental properties were allowed three years from the date of their permits to cease operation. As a result, permits began permanently expiring in December 2020 and all short term vacation properties outside the tourist core - about 1,400 cabins, homes, and lodges - will be unavailable to guests by November 2021. Condos, hotels, casinos, and campgrounds continue to be options for visitors.
Only Good Times Tahoe will no longer be available to guests after September 30, 2021. We've loved hosting you and we're actively looking for a property within the tourist core so we can continue sharing all the good times and peak experiences our beloved Lake Tahoe has to offer. Meanwhile, we support the community as it seeks the balance between sharing the beauty and protecting the resources of this precious place.
We'll keep you posted! Wishing you only good times.
