How many movies can you name that have been filmed in Norway? 🤔

Why not make a trip to Norway and be guided by tv-series and movies...

"Mission: Impossible – Fallout" has a battle scene between a secret agent Ethan Hunt and villain John Lark. Supposedly, the fight takes place on the edge of a razor-sharp 600-metre-high cliff in the Himalayan mountains in Kashmir. In reality, the scene was shot in probably one of the most iconic places in Norway: Pulpit Rock. Pulpit Rock (also called Preikestolen) is a cliff that rises 604 metres above Lysefjord and has an amazing picturesque view. 🏔️

Most of the magical world of Harry Potter is filmed in the United Kingdom, but Norway also gets some credit as one scene in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" was shot in Norway. In the sixth film in the Harry Potter series, the Rauma Railway near the village Bjorli was a backdrop for a train ride with the Hogwarts Express through the snowy landscape. Also, a scene with Harry and Ron talking about the unbreakable curse of Snape was filmed inside a museum train owned by the Norwegian Railway Club.

"Tenet" is a fairly new movie by Christopher Nolan. In the movie, one scene takes place in Oslo. More precisely, when Robert Pattinson and John David Washington are talking about an aeroplane accident, they stand on the roof of the Oslo Opera House. The roof has a beautiful view of the city and the Oslofjord, and it is also freely accessible to visitors. 🎭

How much do you know about Vikings and Viking Age? 🙄

Vikings were seafaring Norse people from southern Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden and Denmark). They pirated, raided, traded and settled throughout Europe from the late 8th to late 11th centuries.

The Viking Age is considered to be the time period from the earliest recorded raid by Norse people in 793 on the Lindisfarne monastery in England until the Norman conquest of England in 1066.

As Vikings were good sailors and navigators, they voyaged as far as North Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and North America. As a matter of fact, the Viking explorer Leiv Eiriksson sailed to the shores of America around the year 1,000. That is 500 years before Christopher Columbus. ⚓

Vikings had their own architecture, art, and laws. They made inscriptions in runes and spoke Old Norse. Although Vikings are mostly known for robbing and pirating, many Vikings lived peacefully as craftsmen, traders, fishermen, and farmers.

The Viking vibes are still strong in Norway. You can visit Viking museums and villages, have tours and learn a lot about Viking history. You can walk around the world's best-preserved Viking vessels in the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo. There you can see the sea-going ships called Tune, Oseberg, and Gokstad. 😯

Norway has beyond beautiful and magnificent nature. It is something everyone has to experience for themself. 🇳🇴

For centuries, Norwegians have used the mountains as a stress reliever of modern life. If you stand 2,000 metres above sea level and have a 360-degree view, it opens up your mind. Fun fact: Norway is home to some of Northern Europe's highest mountain peaks. When you visit Norway, you can choose from thousands of kilometres of marked trails for all difficulty levels. ⛰️

There are between 230 and 300 mountain peaks above 2,000 metres, and around 1,000 mountain peaks exceed 1,650 metres above sea level. The tallest mountain in Norway is Galdhøpiggen in the Jotunheimen National Park. It is 2,469 metres above sea level.

The fjords are the true symbols of the beauty of traditional Norway. You can find more than a thousand fjords in Norway. But what is a fjord? Fjords are narrow, deep and elongated sea or lake drains that are surrounded by majestic cliffs. The fjords were formed by giant glacier tongues. 😍

The fjords and the surrounding areas evoke pictures of Norway of the past. Of the time when people lived as farmers in rocky and steep surroundings. And although the landscapes seem wild and untamed, you can easily explore the fjords area by yourself or through guided tours.

Besides the beautiful nature that Iceland provides us, there are countless interesting things to know about that country. 🇮🇸

One unique thing to know about Iceland is that 30-40% of Icelanders believe in elves. The Icelandic folklore is still rich with stories about "hidden people" who are called Huldufólk. They are said to live in the lava fields. 🧝‍♂️

There are no McDonald's restaurants in Iceland. There used to be a handful of McDonald's restaurants in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, but ultimately they had to shut down. The last cheeseburger sold in Iceland in 2009 is still on display at the National Museum of Iceland.

Iceland is the safest country in the world having one of the lowest crime rates. As a matter of fact, Iceland is the only member of NATO that doesn't have a standing army.

Iceland has the oldest and longest-running parliament in the world. The first parliament Althing was founded in 930 in Thingvellir. 😯

Vatnajökull, in Iceland, is the largest glacier in Europe.

The water in Iceland is so pure that you can drink it from every tap across the country.

Which one of these facts was the most surprising? 😊

Visit Iceland has come up with 'The Icelandic Pledge' that we invite every guest to take when they travel to Iceland. 😉

1. I pledge to be a responsible tourist.
2. When I explore new places, I will leave them as I found them.
3. I will take photos to die for, without dying for them.
4. I will follow the road into the unknown, but never venture off the road.
5. And I will only park where I am supposed to.
6. When I sleep out under the stars, I'll stay within a campsite.
7. And when nature calls, I won't answer the call on nature.
8. I will be prepared for all weathers, all possibilities and all adventures.

Are you ready to take "The Icelandic Pledge"? 😊

Welcome to Denmark! 😍

Copenhagen (in the first picture) is the most populous city and the capital city of Denmark. The city became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. Copenhagen is considered the "Happiest City" in the world. More than 50% of the people in Copenhagen cycle to and from work every day. 🚲

Aarhus (in the second picture) is the second-largest city in Denmark. Aarhus is one of Denmark's oldest cities, dating back to at least the late 8th century. The city was founded as a harbour settlement at the Aarhus River's mouth, and it quickly became a trade hub.

Odense (in the third picture) is the third-largest city in Denmark. The city was burned in 1247 because of a royal rivalry, but it quickly recovered and started to flourish as a centre of commerce in the Middle Ages. Did you know that the last king to be considered a Viking king was murdered by unruly peasants in Odense's St Alban's Priory on 10 July 1086? His remains are on display in a crypt at the cathedral.

Our focus has lately been on Scandinavia, so let's talk about Baltics and Latvia for a change. 😄

Riga (in the first picture) is the capital of Latvia, and the city was founded in 1201. Reaching 368.5 m, Riga's radio and TV tower is the tallest structure in Latvia and the Baltic states. It is also one of the tallest in the European Union.

Liepāja (in the second picture) is the third-largest city in Latvia, but it was the capital city for a short time in 1919. In 1899, Liepāja was the first city in the Baltic states to have an electric tram, which at the time, was the most modern transportation. 🚋

Ventspils (in the third picture) is the sixth-largest city in Latvia. The name Ventspils means "castle on the Venta", referring to the Livonian Order's castle alongside the Venta River. The city became an important mercantile city of the Hanseatic League after it was chartered in 1314.

Would you like to visit Latvia? 😊
