If you've ever wondered (like us) what put the blue in Blue Ridge...

Despite all the trees being green, the Blue Ridge Mountains maintain a distinctive blue haze. This is due to the chemical released by the native trees that scatter blue light called isoprene. Trees emit isoprene as a way to protect themselves from excessive heat.

You like to eat? So do we! A popular question here is where to go for a good meal...looks like the options are expanding with new places to visit!

Several new restaurants have opened or will be opening soon in Bedford County! From Forest to Bedford to Smith Mountain Lake, exciting new things are on the way!

Here's what we know:

> Brimstone Bistro and Beverage is now open at the newly opened Apocalypse Cidery & Winery on Burnbridge Road in Forest. You can even practice your disc golf skills while you are there!

> 221 Tap & Table in Forest has its soft opening November 14 - 20. Check out their page and make your reservation today.

> MJ's Bar and Grill in Bedford (former Applebee's location) is now OPEN for lunch and dinner + Brunch on Saturday's and Sunday's.

> Barrel & Forge Tavern in Bedford (former Fisher's location) is planning to open in January '23.

> Forks Country Restaurant in Bedford is planning to re-open mid next week.
UPDATE: RE OPEN DATE IS 11-11!

> Benny Soldato's and LJ’S Creations are coming soon to the new The Six Twenty at Bedford, but the opening dates for each are not known at this time.

> Mayberry Diner in Celebration Square in Moneta recently opened and is fast becoming the meeting place for locals and visitors alike!

Any day is a good day to visit the D-Day Memorial but as we near Veteran's Day, I am sharing pictures of our recent visit to the memorial. And if you haven't visited the D-Day Memorial, the volunteers there are very knowledgeable and wonderful storytellers, and very often veterans themselves! Remembering the Bedford Boys from Company A and all those who have made sacrifices for the freedoms and privileges we enjoy everyday.

This year at the Bedford Getaway, we've been busy on more outside improvements! The outdoor kitchen now has a stone-faced look but it is warm inside with an all new grill! Lots of places have riverwalks, but not all are as naturally beautiful as the one through Lynchburg...wide open paved path, as well as the worn dirt path for the more adventurous. It's a great place to visit when you're here!

As we enter the summer season, we want to give a huge thanks to our team of pros that keep our pool, spa and hot tub ready for every guest! Chris, Tim, Brian and everyone at Pool Doctor have always gone above and beyond to prepare for each season, each week's guests, and help us learn about the systems. And, of course, we can't forget that they are the ones that installed our new hot tub and pad! We couldn't ask for a better team!
