Can you guess how many cigarettes we found?
This weekend Eat The Peach Travel helped pick up trash with Clearwater's Big Clean Up! With over 50 sites and over 1,300 volunteers it took a whole crew to help clean up all the discarded trash from residents and visitors. Plastics and trash have been on the rise since the pandemic and it's been evident within our coastal communities.
So how many cigarette buds did we find? Over 1,000 within less than 2 hours, being one of the most common items to be disregarded on the beach. It's time we practice better habits and break free from plastics so we don't have to organize massive cleanups for our environment and communities.

Eat The Peach Travel had to do some investigating...
We had to check out the turquoise island of Aruba where the trade winds sing their lullabies to visitors and locals living the good life. The island is quite quirky as one side resembles a desert with cacti and donkeys roaming. The other compromises of pristine beaches with tastes of Spanish and Dutch influences.
HOWEVER, as beautiful the island may be, we did have to put on our critical lenses to assess the tourism situation. One thing in particular is the cruise port that causes a great amount of economic leakage as visitors come to shop at stores like Luis Vuitton that don't contribute to the local economy. The other heart breaking reality is that the east side of the island faces many issues of single-use plastics littering the less touristy side.
Overall, there's some work to be done like anywhere else, but was worth the investigation😄💙🇦🇼

Happy World Oceans Day to OUR LIFE SOURCE!
💙Covers over 70% of our PLANET
💙Produces 50% of the planet’s OXYGEN
💙Home to most of earth’s BIODIVERSITY
💙Main source of protein for more than a BILLION people around the world
💙Key to our economy with an estimated 40 million people being employed by ocean-based industries by 2030
Now more than ever, the ocean needs our support as 90% of big fish populations depleted, and 50% of coral reefs destroyed, and we are taking more from the ocean than can be replenished.
We must create a new balance by going back to our ancestral roots of working WITH the planet, instead of against it. Let's make change for OUR OCEAN & OUR FUTURE.

Happy Monday Peachers! Let's kick off today with some positive news. Did you know destinations like Palau and Iceland have Responsible Tourism Pledges to help educate their visitors before arrival?
We think this is a fantastic way to encourage ecologically and culturally responsible tourist engagement with host destinations!
We may have to give this a go with our tours...🍑💚
Check out their websites below:

"The real voyage of discovery consists in not seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes".
This quote strikes home as we have been revamping our tours towards sustainable group travel. Traveling and tourism have made quite the duo in exhausting tourist destinations. To protect the places we love we have taken on a new perspective.
Rather than viewing the communities and destinations we visit to serve us, we now take on the perspective of how can we best serve them.
Our "new eyes" challenge Eat the Peach Travel to create symbiotic relationships wherever we may be. 💚

Step off the beaten path with us to the abandoned, medieval Ross Errilly Friary circa 1351. Zero tour buses know about the tiny lanes to get to the Franciscan friary, but luckily we do!
Sunsets here are just the beginning to our super localized Dublin & Galway tour!
