Floating the Colorado River for Trout
Slowly…ever so slowly, a shape begins to form. Growing larger, it morphs into a trout as it moves up through the water column to inspect my fly. It places its nose right on the fly…and just sits there drifting downstream with the fly, seemingly for minutes. Don’t set the hook. Not yet. It is enough to fray one’s nerves, but I succeed in my test of patience. Finally, the trout opens its mouth and engulfs the fly. Now, set the hook. Good things come to those who wait. A fine brown comes to net, one of a good number that day.
