The crew spent time mowing and brushing trails at Sisters Farm this week. All trails have been mowed except for North trail and the northern loop on the east side. Single track along the river and the pines loop is done also. Still need to do the single tracks trails by the parking lot and the single track between corn and middle trail. If you are planning to get out and do some hiking or biking I would stay away from North trail and ten North loop and the west side a they are very wet due to all the rain we had. PS the bugs were not too bad out on the trail today 😄

Ok. This looks like a typical post of see what my bike is leaning on , but I took this out at Sisters farm today thinking that I would like to get a discussion started on what are some steps we can take to improve the trails at Sisters Farm and in the area. What kind of trails would you like to see developed, what we can do to improve what we have. How do you enjoy the trails? We are looking to expand membership of the group and build better trail opportunities so please comment and make suggestions that would help us plan our path forward.

Well John and I got the picnic table out of the river that someone thought was a good idea to deposit there. Unfortunately it is in pretty bad shape. Another project to put on the list 😤🤷🏻💰

10/05/2024

Some clowns placed the picnic table we had on Turkey Trot where the pipeline crosses the river in the river. Anyone got an hour or so to help me get table back out of the river and back where it belongs Saturday morning? I think we could do it with two but four people would be better. Let me know if you can help.

Spent today working on the trail that loops through the pines at Sisters Farm removing hanging limbs and general maintenance . One more time around with the brush mower to get rid of some berry brush and it is all set for summer biking and hiking. If you haven’t been on this trail it’s about a three quarter mile loop in the pines off River Trail. Take river trail west from Jim’s house at the end of Sisters Fatm road about 200 yards and take the first trail to the right. It does a loop and comes back out to where you started. It’s a fun easy winding trail we call unwind in the Pines.

Well did what I could with the snow we got. Went over the trail with our light groomer and got some of the bumps out. Trail is soft and has trash with some bare spots you can go around. But this is the weekend if you want to get out and play in the snow. East skate skiing will work. No tracks as there just isn’t enough snow to put tracks down. Fatbiking will be a bit soft so low pressure is the way to go. Snowshoes will work. Please do not hike on trail with the soft conditions. See you on the trail

Well winter is finally here for at least a few days we got about four inches at Sisters Farm I rolled the trails today because well because I haven’t had anything to groom all year it’s not much but maybe we will have snow for a few days trail is bumpy and has a fair amount of dirt on it so if you want to try skiing use your old skis Fat biking should be good with cold temps over the weekend as well as snowshoing but please go when temps are below freezing to keep the snow as long as we can also please no hiking on the trail unless condtiond are very hard again to keep the snow as king as possable i will try to go over the ski trail with the light groomer tomorrow morning after a cold night tonight to take some of the bumps out We will see if it melts quickly or maybe we have a weekend to play in the snow. You got to try right?

Well I spend the day rolling at Sisters Farm today. Marginal snow only about 3 inches to work with. Snow dry and fluffy too. Ski trail has a lot of dirt, trash and is not very smooth but it’s a start. If you are planning to ski make sure it’s your rock skis. Fat tire biking should be ok after it gets cold tonight along with snowshoes. A lot of foot traffic today after I rolled when it was still soft so there will be sections that will be bumpy.

13/01/2024

1/13/2024 Well we finally got some snow. Going to attempt to roll the trail today before it gets cold to see if we can set up a base. May not be enough snow to do too much with. Will report after we get done rolling.

Been spending some time out at Sisters Farm trails and counted 1,476,382 branches and sticks on the trail from last winter's storm. We don't have any specific work days planned right now but any time you can spend out on the trails picking up branches and cutting back brush would be great. Feel free to cut back and limbs or brush along the trail that is hanging over the trail. Even if you don't use the trail in the summer we still need to get it in good shape for next winter and to be able to mow it this summer. If you have questions on where and what to do just let me know.

3-13-23 Sisters Farm Trail Update. What do you do when you get 10 inches of snow I’m March? You groom and groom and groom. Jim groomed the East this morning and I groomed the West side. Very soft so we made a lot of passes but with the cold temps tonight trails should be good tomorrow and for the next few days. I know people are getting tired of snow bur should be a good stretch to get out on the trails

3-10-23 trail update. We groomed Sisters Farm and the lighted loop at the high school today. Sisters Farm groomed up well but will be soft yet today with the warm temps. so maybe give the trails a break today at least for snowshoeing and fat tire biking Colder tonight so the trails should be great for all users tomorrow morning. get on the trails early while temps are below freezing and give the trail a break when the temps go higher to help the trails last as long as we can.

Had a chance to try out a couple of new tools to our grooming arsenal today! A light weight trail groomer and new set of track setters. Both should work well and have a place in grooming trails at Sisters Farm and also the lighted loop at the high school. This also be a good time to remind trail users that it does cost money to keep and maintain groomed trails and we would sure welcome you to join LATA by sending in a annual membership of $25 and of course any and all donations are always welcome. We will have some major costs coming up to replace more equipment like our units we use to pull our groomers in the not to distant future so if you enjoy the trails please consider a donation to the club as we do not receive any financial assistance from and government sources. Donations and memberships can be sent to LATA at P.O. Box 64 Ladysmith, Wi 54848.

3/2/2023 Sisters Farm Trail update. We groomed the West side trails today and with the 3 inches of new snow we were able to set a good track for skiing and have a great base for Fat tire biking and snowshoeing. The East side will be groomed tomorrow and should make for great skiing this weekend. Just a quick reminder to try and use the trails while the temps are below freezing, with the warmer temps in the forecast we can maintain our base longer if it doesn't get rutted during the time temps are warm. Thanks and get our and enjoy the trails while you can!

2/24/23 Sisters Farm trail update. I rolled the west side today and plan to groom and track them tomorrow. Jim rolled the East side yesterday and I made one pass with the groomer and set track today but it is still soft. We may need to go over it again tomorrow. Biking will be soft for awhile. Skiing ok and snowshoeing excellent.

2/3/2023 Trail update. Jim groomed the east side skating lane and reports it as very good skiing.

We also continue to work on our trail system after
The storm in December. This includes the lighted trails at
Ladysmith High School. There are a number of trees down and many branch’s still covering the trail. Jim has organized a work day this Saturday at 10:00 am to work on clearing the lighted loop. If we can get 8 or so volunteers we could get the trail cleared by noon. If you can lend a hand that would be great.

Also there is a fun snowshoe hike of 1,3 or 5 miles on the Ice Age Trail on highway F south of Birchwood near Murphy Flowage Campgroundnext Saturday February11. Snowshoes can borrowed from the Ladysmith Info Center form no cost.

1/20/23 Sister Farm Trail update. All trails were rolled Yesterday, East side trails for skiing were also groomed. They maybe a bit soft and we may have to run across them again today. The west side was rolled and will be tracked today for skiing, Fat biking should be pretty good but will be better by the weekend. Please snowshoe, Fat bike on Westside trails only and please no hiking without snowshoes on any groomed trails. Should be a great weekend to get out on the trails, Enjoy!

Well good news and bad. Good - Thanks to the workers we had last week and weekend most all of the trails at Sisters Farm or now clear and groomed. The bad news is the current temps are making the trails soft and mussy so let's give them a break and please stay off the trails until the temps drop some.

13/01/2023

Wow! Can't say enough about the people that helped out again today to clear trails at Sisters Farm. A Big thank you to John, Jim, Sharon, Tom, Darsha and Dave. We finish clearing the Flambeau View and Brockbank cut so the south loop can now if groomed. Just need to finish up Nuns run and the East side trails will be set for this year. Alot of work but we are getting there. We are thinking another workday this Saturday at 10:00. Meet in the parkiing lot. Finish Nuns run and maybe start on the remaining west side trails that need to open yet, the single track River trail and the unmarked unwind in the Pines trail. All are welcome to to come out and help. Your support has been great! BTW sking has been good as has FB and snowshoeing on the trails.

10/01/2023

Sisters Farm trail work day is planned for noon This Thursday Jan 12 th. Meet in the parking lot. We will finish getting Falambeau view and the cross trail cleared and start on the north loop of the Flambeau View trail. You don’t need any special tools but if you have a brush clipper you can bring along. Any help you can provide is always welcome as we need a lot of limb and brush removers. How to see you there. BYW skiing on the trails that are open is great as well as the FB trails.

Wow big thanks to the seven volunteers that came out to the workday today at Sisters Farm. The crew of Jim, mark, Karen, Steve, Kim, Tom and Dave made a lot of headway. Hard work in the deep snow but we finished clearing Scouts Route and cleared Flambeau View almost back to the cross trail The good news is we can now add another loop on the East side trails that will be groomed starting tomorrow. We will be grooming Scouts Route and cutting though by the pipline and grooming Rocky Road that borders the field back to Jim’s house that will connect across the road that allows you to take Afterthought trail back to the parking lot. This will make a nice added loop for skiing. Skiing and FB trails that are open are in good shape for skiing and sre hard and fast for Fat Biking. Thanks again everyone.

1/6/23 trail update. We have all trails that are open groomed. trails that are groomed are not perfect with some hanging brush and small branch’s on the trail as shown in photo before they were cleaned up so use caution when skiing ( imagine how good they could all look like the second photo if we had more volunteers to finish the clean up)😀. Remember workday tomorrow at 10:00. FB trail is groomed and should be good also.

06/01/2023

1/6/23 trail update: We rolled the west side multi use trails yesterday for snowshoeing and Fat Biking. We are planning to groom and track the West side trails for skiing this morning that are open enough (North and Middle) See previous post. The one loop that is currently open on the east for both skate and classic skiing will also be groomed and track this morning. The East side loop should be in good shape while the trails on the west have a bit more trash still on them.

Also, we are planning another workday this Saturday to work on the East side trails. Meet at the parking lot at 10:00, bring tall boots, hand clippers if you have them. Mainly we need bodies to move limbs and brush off the trails after it is cut. ( no prior experience necessary ) The more people that help out the sooner we can get all trails open and in good shape for winter use.

1/3/2023 trail update. Most of the west side Trails at Sisters Farm have been opened up except for the single-track section of River trail and the unmarked trail in the Pines. However, Corn and River trail are only open wide enough to get the single track roller through at this time. Therefore River and corn trail will only be groomed for snowshoeing and Fat tire biking until they can be fully opened. The following Trails will be groomed (After current snow) with tracks set for skiing on one side of the trail and the other side set up for snowshoeing and Fat tire biking. North Trail A-B-C, Loop de Loop C-D, North Point Trail D-E-F, South point Trail F-G-H, May trail H-E, Cross trail R-T-P-O-T-R, Middle Trail R-S and Aftter Thought Trail S-A. Note, Trails on the West side are not wide enough for skate skiing. While we hope the trails will be useable after we get them groomed please be aware there are still many small branches and brush that maybe infringing on the trail. If you're out using the trail please be cautious and help us out by removing some of those you come across. Also, please! once the trail is groomed do not hike on trails without snowshoes, boots pot hole the grooming and make it hard for other users.

East side update. Now that we have the West side mostly open, we will focus efforts on the East side trails. The only Trails on the East side that are open at this time is the loop from the parking lot that includes Kennecott Short Cut and Kennecott Long Cut 8-7-6- and back to 7, We have cleared most of Scouts Route 6-5-4 but will not groom it until we get the loop including Flambeau View and Brockbank Cutoff cleared. The east side trails are reserved for skiing only please (Both skate and classic). Please snowshoe and Fat tire bike on the West side trails. We will continue to work on getting the trails open and cleaned up. We will likely be having another workday this Saturday, stay tuned for updates. We also have people out working on the trails most every day if you can help please message us and we can fill you in on times and places.

Thank you to everyone helping out and we hope to get all trails open soon.
