YATES TRAVELER is a wholly owned division of YATES TOURS which was started in 1996 as collaboration between Dr. Bettye Yates and the IATA registered tour company, HARVEY WORLD TRAVEL. Bouey and Dr Elizabeth Coles Bouey of Richmond, Virginia who served as missionaries in West Africa for many years. Dr. Yates followed in the footsteps of her parent’s and has spent much of her life in the Third World
countries. After her “official” retirement, Dr. Yates served for many years as a Professor of African and African-American History at Northern Virginia Community College and taught courses at The Pentagon, several U.S. Military installations, and the University of Virginia. She also served as an Adjunct Professor at George Washington University, George Mason University and Potomac College. YATES TOURS conducts fully escorted, fully inclusive tour packages for African American tourists to select destinations focusing on the cultural, educational and historical aspects of each destination. Over the years, there have been an increasing number requests from our travelers to offer more “flexible” tours, with more free time for people to explore places on their own. It was out of these requests that YATES TRAVELER was born, and produces more cost effective tours to our popular destinations. Whilst our YATES TRAVELER packages are not as detailed as those of its sister division YATES TOURS, our high levels of professionalism and attention to detail remains unchanged.
