Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. Guided by academic advisors and business experts, the student leaders of Enactus create and implement community empowerment projects around the globe.
The experience not only transforms lives, it helps students develop the kind of talent and perspective that are essential to leadership in an ever-more complicated and challenging world. Unemployment in Nigeria has been increasing over the last five years and consistently sits around 20% of the labour force.Project EN is a new project that is committed to improving literacy of children and also employment opportunities for local people in Nigeria. The project aims to work with Universal Learning Solutions and our Nigerian partners to develop and deliver a business model which will design and distribute low cost, high quality reading books. These books will contain proven synthetic phonic methods which will help children improve their reading and writing abilities. We adhere to the simple view of reading, which proposes that two key factors lead to reading fluency: word reading and comprehension. Our aim is to deliver books that incorporate the synthetic phonic methods with a fun experience so children can enjoy the learning experience as well. Not only this, we have large ambitions of this project , and therefore we are aiming to work with our partners to provide employment to local people who will distribute the reading books to local schools, with a long term goal of expanding across Nigeria. We want to make a difference, and the scale of this project is enormous. Thus, we are extremely excited for the launch of the project in October 2014.
