Watch for Wildlife🦌

Stopping for wildlife on the Parkway should never be unexpected. Drivers, motorcyclists, or bicyclists who are navigating the route need to give their full attention on the road and be prepared. Deer can be unpredictable and can jump out in front of cars with short notice. Follow the speed limit and do your part in keeping our wildlife safe.

Make plans visit Crabtree Falls of MM 339 off the Blue Ridge parkway. Although almost an hour from the cabin, you can stop in Burnsville , or spruce pine, on your way to the higher peaks. Take 226 S from 19E near Spruce Pine and get on the parkway for just a few miles to MM339. You can get a good 2.5 mi hike in and the go have lunch at the Little Switzerland Cafe. You can find this all on google or in our Waterfall book in the cabin.

We all need a little today!

This photo was taken using one of many unmanned wildlife cameras placed along the Parkway. Park staff use heat and motion sensor cameras, park biologists, and a cadre of citizen scientist volunteers to monitor wildlife activities at multiple locations along the 469-mile route. The cameras are usually mounted to trees and capture photos of animals as they go about their lives in the wild. The park's philanthropic partner, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, funds this project.

Spring is making its appearance , the mountains are greening and the red buds have been so kind to hang around with their bright lilac colored buds, daddy goose is protecting mama goose ( although I don’t think the eggs are going to hatch 😞 )

The parkway is about 20 minutes from here, a hike up to craggy pinnacle is a must do on a clear day!

Farm guard dog treed 2 cubs last night just above the cabin and guarded them all night along with mom who was watching from a tree down below. Once we got Ace to move on , cubs came down and ran off with mom.

We have had the best fall color in quite some time. There is still pretty color around even though we have passed the peak. Chilly nights mean inside fires. The wood is stacked and the outside fire pit ready too.

Cubs up in the woods caught on one game camera playing with the other camera. love it when we get a glimpse of these playful cubs . So far they stay up on the mountain where they enjoy several hundred acres of woods to roam around. We did have our home trash knocked over a couple of weeks ago. our farm guard dog does a pretty good job of keeping critters away at night.

Why Asheville is the great city it is, taken from todays issue of AVL Today:

We are located in one of the most biodiverse spots on the globe.
We are home to the Biltmore Estate, the largest private residence in the country.
Asheville has been named the No. 1 Food Destination in the US.
We have an incredible arts scene and are home to the Southern Highland Craft Guild, the second oldest craft organization in America.
In that same vein, we have a mural featuring two legendary queens: Dolly Parton + RuPaul.
There’s a reason we’re known as “Beer City, USA.” Asheville boasts the most breweries per capita in the US.
Ready to retire? Asheville is considered the No. 1 spot in NC for retirees.
Located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, it’s pretty much scientifically impossible to not catch gorgeous vistas from any spot in the city.

We have so many hummingbirds this year! Although this photo is a feeder at our house , we keep one at the cabin also.

Words can not do justice to sharing an over the top review of this pristine cabin retreat in my kind of version of natural paradise with Mountain views, seating perches to enjoy all the unique farm animals, lovely pastures, a stream over a wooden bridge, a cozy pond, and luxurious accommodations in a perfectly restored 1820’s century cabin with modern additions with climate controls and all the welcoming touches the hosts provide to each guest. My wife and I have found the ideal vacation setting away from home and have come back several times with two more reservations on the books. Daron and Elizabeth are consummate hosts in every way, and could not be more gracious. We have stayed at Eli Reeves Cabin at Hobbyknob Farm during every season and find this setting completely restorative and calming to the soul. Please look at all their Facebook pics with my own pic capturing a lovely view outside the cabin. The Eli Reeves Cabin at Hobbyknob Farm captures my highest recommendation.
