✨ Honor Award ✨

WHKS is pleased to announce that the Ioway Creek Flood Mitigation project in Ames, Iowa has received the Honor Award in the Special Projects Category from the ACEC Engineering Excellence Competition.

WHKS provided design services for flood mitigation and stream restoration measures for a 4,000-foot reach of Ioway Creek to improve the creek/bridge alignment, creek capacity, and hydraulic flows utilizing natural channel design.

Last week, Bill Angerman, Executive Vice President and COO at WHKS, presented to the Senate Capital Investment Committee seeking additional financial support for the proposed joint wastewater treatment facility that will provide wastewater services to five communities in southeast Minnesota!

This week, WHKS employees took part in the Engineering and Construction Immersive Experience Career Event at the Kasson-Mantorville Schools. Throughout the day, second-grade students got the opportunity to explore different careers in the engineering and construction field and participate in hands-on learning activities provided by local experts!

✨ Park Planning Event ✨

Don't forget, this Saturday, November 18th, is the park planning event for the Eagle Valley Neighborhood and the Westbrook Neighborhood!

Can't make it? The online survey will also be open through Saturday. See more details below!

The Park Division is currently developing plans for parks in the English Ridge, Eagle Valley, and Westbrook neighborhoods with construction scheduled for summer 2024. While a neighborhood park is generally designed to serve the immediate neighborhood, the parks will be open to the entire community.

The public is invited to help plan the parks and provide input through an online survey at www.cityofdubuque.org/planyourpark. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and residents of all ages, including children, are encouraged to participate. The online survey will be open through Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023.

An in-person park planning event is being held at each park site:

English Ridge Neighborhood
Saturday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m.
253 Stone Valley Dr. Dubuque, IA 52003

Eagle Valley Neighborhood
Saturday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m.
2095 Harpy Eagle Ct. Dubuque, IA 52001

Westbrook Neighborhood
Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m.
7601 North Westbrook Dr. Dubuque, IA 52002

Following the in-person events and close of the survey, the design team will take the community’s ideas and develop plans for each park. The Park Division expects those plans to be ready to share with the public in late December.

Eagle Valley Park is the official name of the Eagle Valley neighborhood park. The English Ridge and Westbrook neighborhood parks will be named using the City’s Park & Recreation Facility Naming Policy. The proposed park names should generally fall within one of the following categories:

• Historic events, people, and places
• Individuals (living or non-living) or groups who have provided exceptional service to Dubuque’s park system, recreation facilities, or the City as a whole
• Major donations, including land or other contributions for the improvement and/or expansion of the park or trails system
• Geographic location, such as naming in relationship to an adjacent street

Park name proposals may be submitted at www.cityofdubuque.org/planyourpark. The deadline for proposals is Monday, Dec. 4, 2023.
